AniDB:
* An original anime based on an idea by Kawamori Shouji and inspired by the all-female idol group AKB48.

During an age when public entertainment was outlawed, an idol group holds guerrilla concerts without any concern for dangers.

In the beginning of the 21st century, a world war broke out amongst mankind. In the aftermath of the war started by humanity itself, the earth's ecosystem was irrecoverably affected, and it had no choice but to escape the now devastated earth to live in space. A new era began with the Star Calendar 0000. Shortly afterwards entertainment was prohibited by law and the sacred place for otaku, Akihabara, became the public entertainment's absolute area of defense and the only place to perform such activities. In Star Calendar 0048 once more a group was formed in the hope to resume the legacy of the legendary idol act AKB48, which continued to shine even during the earth's downfall. With the law in place they were deemed as an illegal act and unable to hold official live events. This is when the group's concept changed. Instead of the idols you can meet they became the idols who come to meet you. Branded as terrorists by authorities they didn't give up and decided to take up arms to protect the stage they stand on, the fans who cheer for them and the citizens who are deprived of entertainment.

This is the tale of those girls who succeeded the famous name and fight for the freedom of entertainment. Their name is... AKB0048.

Havoc10K:
Well, I was positively surprised, it's quite different than ANY idol show, and after 2-3 episodes, you would understand why.

abc cuz:
i've been meaning to watch this but haven't been really inspired because its not a genre i'd normally go for. but judging from you guys, i take it its worth it?

Havoc10K:
Well, I'll repeat this again, i picked this up out of curiosity, and I was positively surprised, I was NOT expecting this kind of development.

Lemme summ it up in a few sentences.

(click to show/hide)An intergalactic music band several decades ago started traveling from planet to planet delivering songs and happiness.
In response to that a corporation or some law enforcement company called DES (whatever that means) started their anti-entertainment law enforcement. The girls started not only to give concerts but also fight against heavy combat enforcers and unmanned drones for their lives and to deliver songs and happiness.

This show mainly will revolve around girls from 77th generation of the band. The girls are not becoming some new idols, their goal is to become the incarnations of the previous girls, each generation strives to uphold the quality level of the performances, instead of becoming something new. They learn to dance, sing and do ranged and melee combat.

They meet their fans, and they also meet their haters. Every fan and hater give them ideas on how to become better in their roles.

There are songs, and there are battles in this show. this is quite interesting.
Another interesting factor is the way each character set is being shown, some girls are shown with stars in their eyes and on their hair, other generation is shown with other shapes, and current 77th generation has hearts in their eyes and on their hair. This is another interesting thing on how to distinguish importance of every character such as I didn't see it in any other show. Of course there are shows that have some shapes in the main chars presence, but not in this wide variety.

Bob2004:
I love this show, for two reasons:

1) The entire concept of a show about AKB48 flying around the galaxy fighting censorship (literally) while performing concerts is, IMO, hilarious. I couldn't stop giggling all through the first episode while they were introducing it.

2) This show is so bad, it's actually really good. One of those shows that's so terrible, you can't help but enjoy it. The quality's improved somewhat in recent episodes (sadly), but it still applies.

It's definitely worth a watch. And I suppose if you're an AKB48 fan, you'll probably love it.
