There, that's more like it.

Besides, these guys upload in a day what I upload in a year to a year and a half. Why would I need that? Sure, it feels pretty damn awesome to be listed as number 1, but is that really a "need"?
If there are people who collect stamps, there may as well be people who collect gigabytes of uploaded data :]

wtf?! Dhruv... Do we have this kinda net in India?! I want it... No I NEED it! RIGHT NOW! :O
* Copperstone just collapsed after reading houkouonchi's stats.
* Copperstone packing his bags to go to Mozambique.

Max i have seen is in Kolkata and Bangalore
Fibre optics connection which offers a max. speed of 20mbps....
i don't think i have seen higher than that

There, that's more like it.

Besides, these guys upload in a day what I upload in a year to a year and a half. Why would I need that? Sure, it feels pretty damn awesome to be listed as number 1, but is that really a "need"?
According to me if you can seed till 1.5 for everything you download it's alright :P

Nothing on this site surprises me anymore... i have been surprised enough
And if you want a speed comparable to houkouonchi's(if available) be ready to pay $400 a month or more over here.
Of all the corporate offices i have been to i haven't seen a speed like that one
My dad is in the govt. and i saw a download speed of 1.5 mbps in one of my downloads in his office..
That was like 5 yrs ago. So much have increased to 3mbps by now.
Corporate max i have seen is 5 mbps.

^ Lol, no. I mean for consumers like you and me. Not for corporate offices. Offices need that high bandwidth. But what about us fellow otakus?! We need it too!
Well look at this...
You can't call 4 yr old kids otakus who watch anime all day on the tv because they have too much time on their hands.
so people like us who are 15+ and watch anime can be called so
And you know the number of 'us' present in India?
i suppose not more than 2000-3000
No one gives a damn about anime over here...
And when i tell my friends that i watch anime.... they look at me with blank faces :P

which logic is this coming from? corporate "NEEDS" that bandwidth because they simply need it and pay the equal amount of money for it, if corporates need to pay as much just to get that much bandwidth then why are you an exception? you son of zeus or something for the special treatment?

do realize that even these corporates are consumers like us, they simply have more money to wave around to get what they "NEED", or simply put if you got money you can even build your own ISP service.

Actually, now corporate offices have a higher speed. I was doing my internship at my Dad's office in Indian Airlines, and he had a 32Mbps connection. He was actually getting a d/l speed of around 3.5-3.8MB/s. Too bad he does only office related work on his laptop. :( He doesn't listen to my requests at all. :'(

2000-3000 is kind of a less number. This maybe true for "hardcore" otakus. I have about 30 friends here who watch Anime or read Manga. But whatever I recommend. Only about 8-10 of them do their own research. But these friends are like "friends of friends"... kind of outside my circle... which is just me actually. :P
But generally, everyone laughs and scoffs at me when I tell them about how the violence in Blade Of The Immortal is much better than a Kill Bill or a Pulp Fiction or any Bollywood movie. All they say is, "yeah, but dude why would you watch fake blood and animated sex?!" And they call me a "bhenchod, your a kid!"
Fake blood? You don't say? And movies have human/goat blood supplied to them everyday, is it?
As far as animated sex is concerned, that's just fuckin' awesome. Deal with it.
I hate it when these fuckers just randomly utter bull shit without even watching it.

PS: bhenchod = sister fucker... I think.

I seed cuz whynot.jpg. I used to have 150kbs downstream and 60kbs upstream. I know that's not even _that_ bad compared to some people, but I currently have 3mbs up and down so I'm sort of "making up" for what I never managed to seed way back. Though I suppose my parents paying for my bills (eg, I'm not even in college yet) also helps with the fact. I'm pretty sure I have unlimited bandwidth, though.

Funny though because I probably seed torrents 10x more than I download.

Even if they do their own research i don't think you can call them hardcore Otakus.
Well for them to be called Otakus they need to be like us :P
Eg. i haven't watched a movie for more than a year now...last movie i watched was in May 2011 :P
i went to watch a movie last week with friends but gave up the plan drank some beer and i went home to watch some anime. :P
Well there is no use explaining it to them. They are immature so let them be.
And if they think that you are a kid... tell them it is better than opening a porn site and masturbating(i can say this because i do not watch Hentai) :P
And you don't have to listen to them... true friends don't stop you from doing anything...which is not bad
my friend actually likes watching some anime... although he is not an otaku.
we really are getting off topic here....
so just to stay inside the topic... well most Indians do not bother to seed back anything... 99% of them are like this only.

actually for a regular person a 8/8 mbps line would be plenty, with 24hours of usage thats 86GB a day which is roughly two series's worth of download.

hence i don't understand why people need speeds more than that for torrent usage, at 1MB/s or 8mbps it would take 20mins to download a single episode at 1.2GB file size, so every time you finish an episode another would be ready.

I'd say 1 mbps is all that you need
i have 512 kbps line and a laptop dedicated only to anime.
i download and seed 24 hrs a day...
still i end up downloading more than what i watch even at 1080p quality.

^^ I agree. But 8Mbps is freakishly expensive here. There is a plan, but about 2,399 INR ($44 US) and ONLY 150GB of data download. After that, a cap-on-billing of about 2000 INR($40 US). This is just bs.
Unlimited plans of above 4Mbps are just too expensive. :'(

@Dhruv... 2Mbps would be perfect for you. Am using that right now... unlimited. No capping bs.

I seed because this is my own way of giving back. Not so long ago I've had a terrible upload rate but since I switched my isp and now I can download and upload faster. I find it fun seeing my ratio go up and getting my money's worth from my isp. I leave my computer on for days seeding back to bakabt and demonoid but more so bakabt since some of these torrents need more love.

Also that feel when there is one seeder and the torrent you really really want takes forever and you constantly check the status bar  makes me want to seed as well.

Because that's the basis of file sharing... and my PC is on all day to capture IRC logs anyway.

I try not to overdo it here on BakaBT, though, to allow others to get a decent ratio as well. So I normally don't seed much more than about 10 old torrents at a time.

Thank you! Really, lately I've  downloaded 170 gigs of torrents, that is 90 from BBT, 40 from nyaa and 40 from TPB, then set uTorrent to upload 3 torrents simoultaneously with max 3 connections at once since I've got 1mbit UL and it was going like 2KB/s on all torrents. After 30 gigs uploaded only 20 MB were on BBT, the rest makes just so many more requests that Baka torrents will get their time probably only after they're finished.

actually for a regular person a 8/8 mbps line would be plenty, with 24hours of usage thats 86GB a day which is roughly two series's worth of download.
Depends on what that regular person does or what you'd call regular person. I for one download tons of untouched stream copies (ie BDMVs and anime broadcasts) per day and I'd cry if my speeds were that slow.

^ you do realize that thats not normal right? a regular person wouldn't be downloading shit-tons of things in one night, and for the record if its under 80GB it will finish in roughly 24hours that is if the torrent is well seeded.

PS: if you missed it i said 8mbps is "plenty" for a regular person.

So about 2 months later (from when I first started this thread), I've uploaded about 70GB and have finally reached a .50 ratio! I finally got that friggin' smiley face, LOL!

Now that i've been around here for like a month, i have a 3.1 ratio with like 25 or 30 gb downloaded. But i usually try to download from other trackers, because i care about my ratio in here :P.
