Well my internet sucks, max upload speed is ~700kb/s (download is ~7mb/s lol). Still managed to get a 1.6-1.7 ratio. Using it as something to fall back on when I download a lot in a short time without seeding properly. But yeah lately I haven't been downloading anything.

I download very little stuff from here because I don't even have the time to watch much, so I honestly don't need to seed much because of the ratio.

If my computer is on and im not playing online games, I'll just put utorrent seeding because I don't have anything better to use the bandwidth for. Though my internet is really slow, upload is about 200KB/s but it's enough so that i don't need to think about the file size when i wanna download something.

So I'd say I seed so that I can later download something I want without any problems. It's like putting money in the bank.

I try to seed as much as possible but my max seeding speed is 110KB/s ( I have a 1mbps connection)
My usual seeding ratio is 5.0 but its hard to get that with torrents with a lot of seeders.

I've tried seeding bakabt torrents as a public user but the trackers expire monthly or so and seeding ratio is quite bad on them. Currently trying to seed them by making seeding a priority on all the torrents I've had from bakabt.

My pc is online all the time, except during the monthly cleaning of the components. I'd probably like to seed more since my pc anyhow remains online all the time processing satellite images.
Keeping the rubber side down.

Because otherwise torrents wouldn't work. Plus I gave a lot of thank yous in my mind to that just one seeder on torrent I needed. So returning the favor - seeding a couple of torrents where I am the only seeder. Space is cheap, internet bandwith is not a problem anymore.

While it's certainly quite possible 110 KB/s (about .8 Mbit) is you true upper limit, you really should d/l and run TCPOptimizer (legally free, quite safe).  Make sure you tell the utility the truth about your connection when it asks!

I'm betting you will see at least a small increase in total throughput, especially up.

No no no, man. It was only useful on XP because for some stupid reason XP had bandwidth inhibitors.
Don't use it on Win7, or even Vista for that matter.

False.  Out of the box, both Vista and Win7 do not have optimum settings for broadband.  Check the app, check the suggested settings it offers, then google them.

Don't get me wrong, I've used the little proggy for years among other registry tweakers.
But beyond XP it serves little benefit; no side-effects in particular, but Win7 does autotuning by default anyway.

I disagree.  The "default tuning" in WIn7, in fact, is terrible.  But whatever.  You're certainly allowed to dislike the app.

Well okay, just that I've barely altered anything and yet still get in my promised 100/100.

If you're not getting the promised speeds (if the case is severe), then call your ISP about it. The issue is most likely on their behalf, and they are regardless obligated to provide the service they promise.

Back then I seeded just because I had the bandwidth and time. Now I'm semi on hiatus since I don't watch as much.

By the way does anyone know why the number of unseeded torrents just jumped like crazy to over 7000...

It's because of the daily backup of the tracker.

I'm in Hong Kong, which is a super high density and everywhere-civilized city,
which means you do much more,i mean many magnitudes more, business per each meter of wire,
wire is expensive even for the old model(should be copper if i understand correctly),
and optical wire is many magnitudes more expensive than copper.

Now, imagine how cheap the internet my place is,
Firstly, the coverage of optical wire in the city is complete
And guess what, I have 100Mbps for FREE. Indeed, it's just a discount for something else but in average it is like 10USD per month.
In fact, it's the cheapest plan available in most(if not all) ISP in the market(i.e. they force you to consume, like anything else, what i meant is that the "actual" value is much cheaper, like, they can give it for free as a discount).

For most needs, Bandwidth is really useless, unless you find way to make use of it, like, you host a mirror for something,
(btw, what i really  wish for is faster speed of light..or smaller earth..)
so i join all kind of p2p network i consider liberal and usable(bittorrent,ed2k,gnunet,seeks,yacy,bitcoin,namecoin),
i also host relay on various anonymity(tor,i2p) for censored network, doing this for chinese in particular.

I doubt you'll ever see this reply, but your connection does not suck. Rather, it seems obscenely good. I cannot download/upload at a rate that is even 1/10th of your's. But I still consider my lucky to have a faster connection than the dial-up I was stuck with until ~spring2011.

(Exact numbers my dl averages around 50-80/s but can spike up to 200 for a few minutes at a time. Upload sits around 10-40/s and never spikes)

I have a seedbox to avoid the legal repercussions of illegal file sharing so I can download torrent files with a VPN and pass them to rTorrent on my box, then download them from my box with sFTP to ensure I'm completely safe. I download a lot, and with how things are lately... it's necessary.

I don't think I've ever actually seeded because "that's how torrenting works and keeps the community strong!" and all that, even though I know that's how I know I should think... In reality, I've only ever done it for my own selfish reasons. If I don't maintain a good ratio then I can't download anything, and if I don't have a good buffer then I can't download what I want to download sometimes, so it's best to selfishly seed on private ratio tracking trackers. I don't seed on public trackers unless it's something I feel passionately about and want to help spread to others.

At one point, my internet was unmetered bandwidth and then they suddenly changed it without telling me and that I'd been going some 200GB+ over every month and they were going to start charging me... the extra costs would have been so high that I could have had their best plan for those costs... so the fuckheads basically forced me to upgrade my service plan just so I could get a bigger bandwidth cap. Even now, I only have a 200GB a month bandwidth limit. So, if I didn't have a seedbox, to be honest... I wouldn't be seeding. I nearly pass my limit monthly just by downloading stuff, and that's not even counting upload traffic that would occur if I'd been seeding stuff on my home connection. Overall, it's cheaper to pay $15 a month for my seedbox for 150/150 speeds and a massive amount more bandwidth than I have at home.

So all in all, at one point in time it was fine seeding on my home connection when I was unmetered and everyone wasn't so damned obsessed with anti-piracy, SOPA, PIPA, ACTA, internet monitoring bullshit... But I've long since been too paranoid to continue without the buffer of a seedbox to encrypt what I'm doing, even before my bandwidth started being metered.

So why do I seed? For my own selfish personal reasons, really. Since I need the extra bandwidth and security buffer the coincidental result of seeding a lot ends up happening. It's not like I mind that I seed a lot, mostly because it helps me... and I'm a pretty selfish person... but I never go through all the bandwidth on my box anyways, so since I pay for it anyways for other reasons, letting it seed and help out the community isn't necessarily a bad thing. I mean, all that bandwidth will just be wasted if I don't use it anyways, right? Even if I'm only really doing it for my own protection...

P.S. My ISP only offers upload speeds of like 100-150kbps, so people complaining about 5.5Mbit uploads (~700kb/sec)... you have no idea how good you have it lol. I had to seed 24/7 with most of my upload bandwidth just to maintain decent ratios before I got a seedbox. It's bullshit, really. Even with a $100 a month plan it's like a 60/1.5Mbit plan (AND only like 500gb/mo bandwidth!)... what fucking bullshit. Though I'd never use that kind of connection for pretty much anything except torrenting, so it's way more economical to just use a seedbox anyways... added security aside.

Since my PC is switch on for 24/7, i just seed anyway. I've got nothing to lose since i've got too much bandwidth.
