Oh gaosh Dhruv, if the Iphone 4 could, we would've did a direct comparison with the S III already a few posts back.

Mine can't actually play 10bit, but if we were to compare it in terms of what's viewable.

(click to show/hide)

That's an iPod 4th Gen (same size as iPhone4) and a Galaxy Nexus (Close in size to the S3).

A tablet, no matter how portable it is, isn't as easy to take out when you're in a crowded bus going through the daily traffic. The phone is big enough to watch comfortably without drawing attention.

Being able to watch on a phone may not be impressive to some, but it's better than staring at someones bald spot for an hour ;D

^ this should solve the viewing problems imho.
http://pinktentacle.com/2007/10/teleglass-t4-n-wearable-monitor/

all thats left to be invented would be to include a built-in brain-wave I/O for controls. wooo plug that into your laptop and do stuffs with your head, literally.

So you guys are finally admitting that ARM is now as powerful as a C2D?

I actually asked before if a quad core (like Tegra 3) is poweful enough to play h264 1080p in software mode. But i was told it probably still used partial GPU acceleration and no one corrected him. So what is it really? Is ARM really powerful enough to do 10bit HD software encoding, or is it still relying on the GPU?

Arm can be powerful the tegra 3 was a surprise the tega2 was junk. I currently am testing a raspberry pi and an MELE200 which is based off the allwiner A10 stuff, The main issues with arm is its untested on what it can do, Can it play 1080p 10bit, with subtitles, while decoding 5.1dts/flac to 2 channel stereo, while a torrent client is running in the background. And a lot of it is the software behind it just needs to improve. take the MELE2000 its actually a 2160p player but that is also using the mali400 for gpu accelerate but at 75$ you will not build a pc to play 2160p. So ARM has a nice market just two things need to happen. Better software and not so fragmented of a market.

Right now all arm devices that could make a decent htpc/player are all hobby toys. nothing polished for mainstream yet.

Apparently you don't need a cable anymore as long as your friend as has a PS3, 360, or DLNA compitble Blu-ray player. I haven't tried it yet though. I see there are apps in the Android Market (or should I say Play Store :) ) that will allow you to wirelessly stream content on your phone.

Uh, except that requires that this friend has a PS3, 360, or DLNA compatible BD-player. That's a lot more restrictive than just "HDMI-capable HDTV," which are pretty mainstream these days. I have plenty of friends who don't have any of the three but do have the HDTV.

So the 64GB is also available for pre-order although it is the GSM version. The Verizon version is slightly different. I can't imagine it will be too much different in price though.

http://negrielectronics.com/samsung-i9300-galaxy-s-iii-64gb-unlocked-marble-white.html

$915 yikes!

I'm starting to question if I really need that much space. $660 seems much more reasonable. I don't know though. Having 64GB internal storage plus a 64GB micro sdhc card would be amazing. I will have to give this some thought...

$915 isn't that much considering what i paid for my iPhone 4
$750 for a 16GB version(due to excessive duties levied in my useless country)
I'll get my iPhone 5 or 6 from USA only now

I wouldn't be surprised if you find Retina displays on Android devices in the coming years, although under a different name. Then we can all watch Apple sue or try to block a phone from being sold (like they are with the Galaxy S III).
ehm retina display is an apple brand name, which tells nothing about the screen. Pretty much all of the current generation high-end smartphone got an a 720p screen which gives a higher PPI than the LG screen in iPhones. S3 uses a 720p pentitle amoled display which means it will look a bit less crisp than a normal RGB screen with the same PPI.

well how am i supposed to know that...

I doubt apple or anyone else will incorporate it in the near future, so software decoding is the way to go for a long time in the future. Unfortunately the cpu in iPhone/iPad are pretty weak, and there aren't much hope Apple's next generation will be any better, since they mostly focus on gpu.

He can always buy an adapter so it can be plugged in to a hdmi cable, even thought it is a shame they didn't add one as standard.

Since I found out that the S3 is using Wolfson DAC for its audio chip, I have been interested in upgrading, but I think I will wait on a phone with an A15 processor.

It tells me it is the screen on the IPhone (at least in this discussion).  :P

IPhone 4S - 326 PPI
Galaxy S III - 306 PPI

Like I said though, I am more concerned about resolution and screen size than PPI. At only 20 PPI short of the retina on the IPhone, I'd say the GS3 has a Superior screen.

EDIT:
So I just found out that if I pre-order before the 28th, I will get the subsidized price and still be able to keep my unlimited data plan. After the 28th, I will be forced onto the 2GB for $30 or a shared data plan if I choose to get a subsidized phone (which I wouldn't). I was torn between getting the 32GB or waiting for the 64GB since I was going to be paying full retail, but now that I can get a subsidized price, that changes things. It was one thing to spend an extra $256 to get the 64GB over the 32GB, but since I can get the 32GB subsidized now and would have to pay retail for the 64GB, thats a $666 difference. I would be borderline stupid not to just get the 32GB now. Hell, I can always sell it later if I want the 64GB that bad. Besides, getting on another 2 year contract with unlimited data locked in is a pretty smart move considering how bad Verizon wants to get everyone off of it.

So now for the big question: White or Blue?

I meant that saying it is retina doesn't tell anything about the screen spec wise, so saying it will occur on android doesn't mean anything.

Color: I would go with the blue, since white phones often ends up looking more used than they are.

I would also go with the blue, but only because white (and black and silver) is too mainstream.

I went to the CBD in HK today, and everywhere I looked, people had either S3 or iPhone 4(S) lol. Asked around for prices and they ranged from roughly US$600 to US$700 (rounded). That's unlocked of course.

By the way, I saw a bit about 10-bit and playing anime on iP4/S3, and I just want to show this. Screenshot from my friend's S3 playing UTW's Fate/Zero 720p 10-bit video with no lag. It seems to render styled ASS and karaoke without any problems too.

I'm super psyched! I just pre-ordered the 32GB version in blue. I decided to go with blue because of two reason: 1) There seems to be a lot of agreement that white tends to look amazing in the press photos but not quite as sharp in person. 2) I was worried the white border would be too distracting when watching video

It should be in the VW store by the 11th or 12th. The wait time between now and then is going to be agonizing. :'(

If you have 30 min to kill and want to see an awesome presentation of what this phone can do, then check out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=46IiRyigUH0

The video shows some flawless 1080p 10bit playback on both the device and a HDTV. There are also some nice demonstrations of N64 and PSX emulation which the device handless with ease. What is really impressive is the USB connectivity support. You can plug in mice, keyboards, thumb drives, and even hard drives, yes hard drives.

This phone is going raise the bar pretty high for high end smartphones.

IPhone what? :P

Because both the atoms and amd apu's suffer the same issue, sub par cpu with a pretty decent gpu, So without gpu they fall on there face. The size they were going for just isnt working for them, take the AMD E350/450 people are getting temps 75c+ constant on them.
