Manga/Anime Shop in NYC
« on: June 19, 2012, 02:35:24 PM »
Yup, I'm looking for that.

OK, a little more details:

I am traveling to New York City this november as part of a university excursion and we will be given some free time to go shopping which I'd like to invest into getting a few anime DVDs/Blu-rays and manga books. So now I'd like to know a good place in Manhattan (prefered, since all other boroughs would be too far away) or Newark where I can buy these – if possible, tax free.

Thanks for your help.

The only real place within Manhattan I found was Kinokuniya, but they're stupid prices. If its at all possible to get a subway over to Flushing (Queens), there's a place called "Anime Castle" which was awesome. I ended up spending quite a bit there, and whilst it's a bit out of the way, the Chinatown district of Queens >>> Chinatown in Manhattan. If I remember correctly, it's something like a 30-45min subway ride each way, so it might be possible. Within the island of Manhattan though? Yah, expect to pay silly prices. As in, you might be better off ordering online (unless it's actually impossible to find online) kinda prices.

Dunno if this will be close to where you are going in NYC ... but there is a BookOff ... They sell used books, cds, dvds etc ... from Japan and the US.

Both are noted, though I do not know whether I will get a chance to go to Queens. As far as prices go, I consider myself to be quite flexible – and to be frank, I think even high prices may still be somewhat cheaper than buying at a shop for anime imports or ordering from an american website. (I'm not from the states)

Noted and marked.

Thank you, both of you. Really appreciate it. :)
