Get the 15 inch one, or the 17 one if you truly feel likecarrying that damn thing around,

Add the new i7 3610, add a 750 gig hybrid harddrive and get rid of the GPU altogether.

You will not benefit from a GPU.

Okay so I considered what you said and it was true, I'm not going to game so I don't need a i7. So I decided to try a slower computer.

HP Pavilion dv6z-7000 Entertainment Notebook PC

    AMD Dual-Core A6-4400M (3.0GHz/2.6GHz, 1MB L2 Cache)
FREE Upgrade to 6GB 1600MHz DDR3 System Memory (2 Dimm)
Genuine Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
    2GB AMD Radeon(TM) HD 7730M Graphics
FREE Upgrade to 640GB 5400RPM Hard Drive
    No additional security software
    9 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
    15.6-inch diagonal Full HD Anti-glare LED-backlit Display (1920 x 1080)
    Microsoft(R) Office Starter: reduced-functionality Word/Excel(R) only, No PowerPoint(R)/Outlook(R)
SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-R/RW with Double Layer Support
HP TrueVision Webcam with Integrated Digital Microphone + HP SimplePass Fingerprint Reader
    802.11b/g/n WLAN
    Backlit Keyboard
HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope

Do you think the graphics card is overkill?

I can choose the 7670 1gb

Wait a damn second. You said solidworks, afteraffects, CADs... etc and little to no gaming.

You NEED an i7 for those what you don't need is a GPU. An AMD apu will frustrate you to no hell with that.

@Kitamusume, this isn't a gaming rig. He will need the i7 for his work, the HD4000 is enough to allow him to play most games on low-med if he wants to waste some time, but he doesn't need a discrete card for anything else.

kitamesume:
^ using a laptop with those stuffs will frustrate you to no hell. a desktop could save you 400$ (600$ for a rig) with a quad ivy, heck you can get a hexa for around 900$.

simply put a laptop will never be as fast as a desktop on the same price range.

Edit: newer versions of autocad is CUDA accelerated.

The computer comes with a built in 630m its in the price. I can upgrade to the 650m. But yeah I'm not going to game, so I don't really need any upgrades in GPU.
