It's like Moore's law for Windows. Every even number Windows will be crap, and every odd number ones will be better.

except vista was better than xp

Da fuck? Blasphemy. . .to the gallows
Seriously, this.

Vista was arguably the worst OS since ME.
Literally every single person I've ever talked to that had Vista, uninstalled and went back to XP, and to Win7 when that came out.
Win7 is like... the non-shit version of Vista.

There was nothing really wrong with Vista. Annoyances, sure. It's not MS' fault that Intel lied about Vista Capable or nvidia/AMD too lazy to write proper drivers for the new WDDM. People hate it just because others tell them to hate it.

Vista as a OS was not really a bad OS at its core.  The problem was bad support and it being a little bloated.  Vista was better then xp when you got it to work/had the right hardware.  XP had horrible security and vista had security that was annoying to a lot of people.

It really was not as bad as people made it out to be.  Everyone seems to forget how bad xp was when it came out but, I dont blame them as it was a long time.

XP had reached the point of not being annoying as hell, but that's about it and it became stale.

Back on topic a bit, I've read a bit about the new surfaces, and for that, Windows 8 seems like that will be ideal. How much of a push they're going to have to make to get people to go all surface is...yet to be seen.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

lol I suppose the interface does at least make remote control navigation simpler.

^ yeah, plus with a PS3 emulator in it who'd need a PS3? :3
hopefully windows8 would support programs well enough in the future, at the moment not every game seems to work on windows8 =(

time will tell.

I like the interface of Windows 8. The only thing i don't like is the splitted search menu and the right click menu that pop-ups on the bottom or right side of the screen (for PCs, tablets make sense).

I still think its going to be a huge failure. . .

although microsoft is trying to push laptop manufacturers to have touchscreens. . .

as long as they dont do the "next directX version wont be supported by Windows 7" crap. . .i dont think 8 will be sucessful

Windows has been giving devs tons of free shit to develop for 8.
I mean TONS. Like, surfaces, PCs, tablets, all for free, as long as you make stuff for Windows 8.

That's one solution to competing with the App Store.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Was Vista a market failure? I imagine the momentum just from being bundled on new systems would carry 8 pretty far as is.

It's also ridiculously cheap, relative to previous editions.

I have a gut feeling theres gonna be a service pack ~2 months after release. . .

I dont know, maybe im and old-timer and I just cant see it being successful in a desktop with that metro interface. . .

Can't you opt out of the Metro interface? I don't believe they make it easy, but I doubt having to fiddle with things stopped most experienced users from disabling UAC with Vista.

Well, any applications that you didn't download through Microsoft's new Windows Store aren't allowed to use Metro anyway, so they operate on the normal desktop already. The problem is, Microsoft have removed the start menu and replaced it with Metro. I don't know how easy it would be to get it back.

Classic Shell can fix that for you. it's free and open source. ironic, isn't it?
