There are two preview releases you can use to try - the Developer's Preview and the Consumer Preview. Both were available for free download at one point, and they may or may not still be available now.

I would try it, but on someone else's pc. OS is one of those things that are rarely worth installing just for the sake of trying it out.

I got mine from MS for $15. I like the metro interface but I miss the start button too. I got start8 and now I'm pretty happy with it.
