Yay or Nay? The Windows 8 Metro Interface
MyonMyon:
Everyone here is hating on metro, but most of you seem to miss the point that YOU DON'T HAVE TO USE IT IF YOU DON'T WANT TO.
Yeah, you read right. You don't have to use it. I don't. And it doesn't affect the way I use my PC in any way.
When I fire up my PC i will be seeing the metro window for about 1 second. Then I press the desktop button and TA-DA. No more metro. Just use it like it was Win7 and enjoy the other new features (like improved task manager, faster booting etc.)
Not to mention the fact how cheap the upgrade is, I don't see a reason not to get Win8. Even if you hate Metro. You don't want to lose start menu? To be honest, I didn't feel like I was missing anything but if you want to be retro there are many ways to get a start menu similar to the older versions. ClassicShell, Start8 and more similar applications are available for free.

Why bother doing that when you can install this nice little program and save the trouble of ever seeing metro interface ever again. Best of all, it's highly customizable, so you can change each feature individually.
I know I will be most likely going over to win8 when they introduce win8 exclusive DirectX API and thanks to the community that corrects Microsoft's stupidity, I can cross over without even noticing the eye gouging interface changes.
EDIT: missed the line where you mentioned it yourself. Anyway did you test it out though? Wonder if it works flawlessly as advertised.

I giggled a bit.

Because ClassicShell takes a few seconds to boot (about 3 to 5 seconds) I will see the metro window for that amount of time regardless. But as I'm normally sitting in front of my computer I have no reason to wait for ClassicShell to boot; instead I just press the desktop button which is faster anyway. I don't really need the start menu as the only thing I used it for before was getting to My Computer/Control Panel and shutting down which I can do easily without it, too. (And if you right-click in the place where the start menu used to be you will get a list with most of the old start menu's features - and a few more)

I don't quite get what you are pointing at. Please elaborate. The point of my post was that Win8 has some improvements over Win7 which you should not ignore just because you don't happen to like the new metro UI which, as I said, you don't even have to use if you don't want to. How does adding metro hurt you if you can just choose not to use it?
But as you were probably just forum trolling me, all I can say is: Haters gonna hate - stay cool 8)
edit: I tested ClassicShell but came into the conclusion I can do without. I can see, however, why many people will find it a good choice depending on their preferences. It was pretty easily customizable and had a lot of features, too. I'd recommend it if I was asked.
