Do realize that the more recently trending attacks come from web scripts when you least expect them.

[ EDIT:  Actually, now that I think about it ... there's probably already something like that in Win 7, or probably already in or will be in a "Security" update.  Probably a Good Idea to keep an ear to the ground to see if anyone turns up a predecessor to Smartscreen showing up in previous Win versions, or getting added in as some sort of a "patch." ]

+ shoulda drawn a circle around TURN OFF...

Okay I don't get it. Please explain what's the fuss all about?.. Clearly states - turning it on sends information about apps.. Something akin to "help improve experience" in Windows 7, Office and Visual Studio..

Seems like a truckload of FUD from Linux zealots.

Bob2004:
@Pagonis: Basically, it sends the name of the file along with a hash (which uniquely identifies that executable file) to Microsoft, who then check it, and if it's on their list of known malware, Windows block it from running. The concern is that Microsoft can use this to identify what applications you've been running. Which, IMO, is relatively unlikely, but who knows.

The bigger concern though, as that Ars article pointed out, is that every single Metro app HAS to be installed via the Windows store. So, in other words, every program that makes any use of the new Windows 8 features, has to be downloaded straight from Microsoft anyway. Who can then link that data to, at the least an email address, and potentially a name and billing information too. Which is a ridiculously massively huge issue to begin with anyway (with potential legal issues - as MS already know from internet explorer), but even setting that aside, the privacy risk makes that silly little optional smartscreen thing pale in comparison.

No.  You don't.  It must suck to be you, stumbling through life so clueless and stupid.

There were links.  They provide copious information, lots of vocabulary to search out the issues.  If you can't read for comprehension and do your own homework, don't think for a minute I'm going to waste my time trying to "explain" anything to you.  It's pretty clear where you're coming from and I won't engage you in your "I haz a unconcerned and MICROSOFT IZ T3H AWSOMES" trolling.
