the problem with AVs are the false detections, they've killed my OS a few times, specially kaspersky.

I've been using vista for awhile now and the metro blows total ass. i was so angry and i rage for hours trying to figure where everything was like where the eff the pc options and other stuff where like restarting the pc lol. the ribbon ui thing i don't really dislike or do i like it most of the metro apps are useless if you dont have a touch screen they just become clutter not to mention cumbersome and there is no way i can see turning them off unless you kill them from the task manger.now the metro kill it with fire for regular non touch screen users i was so pissed not having a start button i raged screamed at my monitors going where the eff is the start button then i found it on the side and i was wtf is is crap i couldn't believe they got rid of the start button. After many hours of pissing around i hackzored my windows 8 i don't rest till i got my start orb back im now happy after hackzoring and hardcore tweaking to get windows how i wanted and turning of pretty much everything that had to do with metro and the new bsod screen seem like windows is saying all its users are stupid with a frowny face for the bsod haven't got one yet but i've screen pics also smart screen and the windows defender make it a litle hard to use crack programs casue it will keep poping up till you get rid of the crack even if you know the crack is ok. I really dont like that they took away the classic option cause turning of the aero style on 8 just makes the desktop look visually ugly now if i had the classic option that would be my desktop without any wallpapers
Now for things i like:
the faster boot up
the new dual boot screen
not having to use a third party program to get extend taskbar but the third party programs have more functions and features some nice features with them
i love the new lock screen you can change it to anything without hacking it like you had to with xp ,vista and 7
i like the improved performance with things less ram usage faster transfers among other things
i like that it use my other devices and knows what they are like my tv,phone, and combo printer fax scanner
i like the windows media player for music the player grabs all info on missing tracks its kinda creepy even when the track info is wrong or almost non existent like anime music for example some of my music is label by anime it finds where the song was from and what album. i also have a lot of regular j-music like nami tamaki not just her anime music and finds all of it
i like how the taskbar changes color with the wallpaper
inmho windows 8 is a mixed bag alot of hackzoring and tweaking and piss around is needed if you don't have a touch interface there are good things and bad things kinda leaves windows 8 in the middle of not being good nor bad you just have to take time pissing around with it. im getting a free full copy of the final verson so i will use it but i will keep my dual boot my win 7 and my other nix distros along with my pcbsd that im effing around with . If i had to grade 8 i say c/c- so its slightly below average untill you get it the way you want then is average but the metro is the thing that lowers it big time unless you have a touchscreen metro is rather useless. There is something i want to ry with windows 8 but i haven't but i do like the idea behind it you can log in to somebody else pc that has windows 8 and get your desktop without having to use some other program i would really like to try this but i haven't gotten to yet if anybody has uses this feature/ function i'd liked to hear about it and what thoughts you have.
now people qqing about privacy and other issues with it its all bs google and apple do the same thing you so worried about it stop using google don't use a smart phone don't use facebook google+ or anything of like including things like twitter. google m$ apple those companies want to know everything they want to track you so if you use one of them they already now everything just like if you have android google knows what you're doing same with m$ you have their smart phone they already know what your doing so no point crying about it if you like your smartphone same thing for facebook and twitter you're worried about all the privacy stuff don't use it facebook tracks everything so does twitter and another thing read all of the agreements before for anything before clicking yes then qqing about it they tell you what they are doing in those and if you don't like it don't use it now if you use and still don't like it its on you.

I think the modern style UI part of win8 isn't that bad (except for it's name)... Sure, it takes a while to get accustomed to it and to find all features, but it definitely isn't bad. I particularly like the new, much cleaner start menu (or home screen)... I don't have to sift through a complex folder structure to find a particular program (or 250 unordered links), i just scroll to the right to the desired category (Sound utils, for example) and have the desired apps right there regardless of if the app uses winrt or not.

o.o now that i think of it, how would windows 8 fair as an HTPC OS, i know theres already a few dedicated OSes there but i still like LAV+MadVR XD
also i wonder if you could disable most of the features to bare-naked.
