too hard to find good anime
« on: July 04, 2012, 10:38:23 PM »
Has anyone found over the years that they have watched all of the good anime that is out there and that they are finding it harder and harder to find things too watch. I go to the suggestion board and I look at all of the top ten favorites and the best anime and the this and the that and all of the anime that is suggested is something that I watched or something that is for a different taste of anime enthusiast.

I keep looking for a website that has good anime references, reviews, and that is easy to navigate and will load on my browser (animeplanet for some reason will not load its reviews on my browser). I keep finding the same list of anime and always I have watched it or it is crap too me.

does anybody have this problem as of late?

Yes, anybody who has seen a few 100 animes will have the same problem....all you can do is wait for new animes to air...or just force yourself to check out all the average shows

I watch old stuff and hope that future anime seasons are similar to this year's spring.

There is your problem. Good anime isn't hard to find. But, sometimes you need to find it for yourself. And personally, I enjoy re-watching series I enjoyed in the past.

Yea I've been in the same boat, but that's precisely why you should never judge a book by its cover.
There is a surprising amount of anime that definitely don't appeal to you at first for whatever reason... cover, picture used in the site you're checking it up on, a particular review or simply the genre.

Many hidden/unsuspecting gems are hidden out there. You should check out the suggestion board and explain your tastes if you have the spirit. Some people will definitely drown you with dozens of shitty suggestions but you'll get one or two anime that'll satisfy your needs... kitto.

A weird example I could give is how I picked up Kaleido Star one day (I honestly have no clue why or how it came to this, don't remember. Been years after all). It looks childish and retarded-ly girly but I'm not that ashamed to say that it turned out to become a personal favorite. It's the only show that I've watched >= 4 times.

Give it a shot, it's free and people like me love thinking of the perfect recommendation.

If effort beyond that is "too hard", this is the end of the road for you. There's only so much anime you can find that will fulfill all those conditions and be little more than a click away.

tl;dr search more whine less

Use information networks to their fullest potential and you should have few problems finding good anime. This forum board is one of those. Anime Discussions and Recommendation subforums hold vast information which is frequently updated.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

That's how it is with all forms of entertainment, there's only a very small percentage of good stuff, the rest is all crap. Once you've seen most of the good stuff, then you realize that this is true.
I think that the best strategy is to temporarily switch to another form of media, for e.g. movies or books, and then come back to anime after a while to check out the new releases.
Otherwise get high.

No, I just don't expect anything from anything and usually I have fun.

Haha, that definitely sounds like something you'd say.

This, or anime with unnecessarily convoluted plots/unexplained occurrences that make no sense whatsoever.

If you want something funny, check this anime out http://bakabt.me/130695-lovely-complex-kisssub.html. I thought it was pretty good.  :)

I, for one, love moeshit and 'kawaii' slice of life animu. It's just simply relaxing to come home from work after a crappy day (which is any day I work) and watch cute girls doing cute things.

I just started watching Anime for reals, not just now and then.
It's like I've got an endless buffet of REALLY good anime to choose from! Since, you know, I've never seens ANY of them before. It's all new to me!

Something wrong with Moe and Kawaii? lolz! It can't be all-serious all the time.

As my list of things I've watched grows, I'm getting a little more particular about what I see. As long as there's CATGIRLS I'm usually content!

Now if you'll excuse me, I'll be watching S01 Ep06 of Strike Witches...
(yes it's silly as all get-out, but it's cute and fun!)

This thread can be helpful. Some people's suggestions were great, others not so much. In time you'll notice if anyone shares you same tastes.

Elitist fags thinking that what they had watched is mostly "good" stuff.

Make a list at myanimelist, and provide a link to it when you ask for suggestions. If people have MAL lists of their own (and a good majority of people do), they can use the "Shared Anime" function to avoid listing titles that you've already seen. There are other personal list/database sites out there (anime-planet, animenewsnetwork, anidb, animenfo), but I've found that MAL works best to answer the question, "What have I seen that this person has not seen?"

Got any old fansubs on HDD/DVD/CD? Please take a look at this thread.

I'm having the same problem with manga at the moment, but I guess that the same will happen with my anime.
