Well i got your point but since you were talking about fast drives i thought i should bring this one up too.

How much research do you really need to do for an external, they're all fairly similar....?
Get one that has the best $ to gb ratio if you value your money.
Get one from a decent local pc store if you value your time.
Get one with more warranty if it'll be used more frequently.

And no, there arent any know deathstars on the market right now, unless there are still some 7200.11 floating around with old firmware.

Well i say i do agree with all three of your points but there is something more to it which can only be known by asking others who have used it before.
You can't decide how good a drive is just by going to the shop....like everyone here prefers Western Digital over Seagate
Max warranty i have seen for 3TB drives is 3 years... imo they should last more than that... warranty is no good in this case...
