^err thats not possible, have you ever seen one get upgraded?

the only way to do so is to trade it back for the other version but thats also impossible unless its for a refurbished item but i also doubt they'd give you the other version even if its a refurbished one.

so best case scenario is to sell yours and buy the other one.

Is it possible to upgrade the cpu/ram on the s3
If so how?

No and no. I wouldn't worry about the ram though. 2GB is is more than enough. Hell, even the 1GB international model has no problem playing 10 bit. Ram certainly isn't the bottleneck here.

From what I have been reading, it sounds like it may be more of a gpu issue.

What carrier do you use? I am pretty sure the international version will work on AT&T's HSPA+ network (don't quote me though, I am not too well versed in network frequency compatibility) so buying an unlocked version may be a good option for you.

Like I said though, with a good rom and overclock this device should have no problem playing 720p 10 bit as it can already can play it fairly well. Have you tried BSPlayer yet?

Btw, I love your avatar. Every time I see it on the forum I wish it was mine! :)

You still haven't answered, do you own the US or international version?

Although, considering you are having 10 bit playback problems, I am guessing you have the US version.

Can you let me know which 10bit videos you have tried playing and which version and carrier you have? I would like to try them out as I have had pretty good luck with 720p 10 bit playback.

Edit: I noticed this thread was merged with the android mkv playback thread but maybe it should be merged with my Galaxy S III thread as the OP is asking a device specific playback question and I already have a thread for his specific device.

^ not at all, to begin with the original topic warrants a move towards the playback section.

I doubt we'll deal with the issue compatibility in that section, we'll end up discussing about doing a re-encode instead.
Plus the topic won't get much attention there anyway.

i guess so, playback section has been pretty dormant for a while now. tho if you think about it this concerns mainly as playback so it does fit in the playback section.

on the other hand how come they won't just make the 4core a standard? imho does it's current price reduce the profits from doing so?

Because android is being put everywhere, to make 4core a standard would be like not allowing Win7 to be installed in netbooks (which runs great on mine by the way). There are single core ICS devices being sold right now which are basically just platforms for the MALI400.

^i simply meant for the S3 o.o they did two versions on the S3 as two cores and four cores, why didn't they just put the 4cores a standard and made a separate version with the 2cores in it.

its like as if intel released an i3-2100 with two versions as 4cores and 2cores with the same exact name and exact price, imagine how many people would be pissed if they got the 2cores instead of 4.

Ah, i think that was because the quad core chipsets weren't playing nice with the radio units needed for US carriers. Some sort of issue between Quads and LTE. I'm not techie enough to get the details.

That is what I have been hearing. It is worth noting though that the Korean variant has quad core, 2GB ram, and LTE but it is .4 mm thicker because the LTE radio is not integrated with the chipset.

If only I could the Korean variant to play with Verizon I would order one but I know that isn't going to happen.
