Best psychological anime?
« on: July 25, 2012, 03:59:09 AM »
I just finished watching Mirai Nikki, and holy crap was it good. Probably my favorite anime so far because of the extremely interesting plot while still being able to have romance in it.

Here is my list of anime I've seen: http://myanimelist.net/animelist/Omarbeans

I think I may have a liking for psychological anime that I didn't notice before. Any suggestion?

Things that would be awesome if it had, but doesn't need it:
-Romance (kisses, going out, sex maybe, blushing)
-Action
-Plot twist, epic plot.

Didn't see Ergo Proxy on your list.
So I'll recommend that to you;)

Monster. Seriously, I cannot think of anything with a more epic plot, and whilst there's no romance really involved, I think the fact it spends it's entire run time exploring the psyche of a tortured doctor questioning whether everyone deserves saving as he tracks down a manipulative sociopathic genius, it kinda fits the bill.

Serial Experiments Lain, or just about anything by Satoshi Kon would also fit (particularly Paranoia Agent).

I agree with the following choices:

Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni
Welcome to the NHK
Death Note
Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica

And to add:

Bokura no (a bit similar to Mirrai Nikki, about the whole "game of death" thing)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (I'm surprised it's not on your list, this is a classic!)
Code Geass (Same as above, a must see!)
Another (My second best horror anime next to Higurashi)
Narutaru (Don't be fooled by the fact that it looks like pokemon!)
Speed Grapher (This one is a bit disturbing but good)

I suppose Berserk and Claymore could also fit in as "psychological".

Most of the gems have been mentioned already, but Shiki, Zipang, and Perfect Blue haven't yet. Princess Tutu and Revolutionary Girl Utena also, if you don't mind magical girls.

Seconding a lot... specifically Monster, Paranoia Agent, Welcome to the NHK, Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica, Bokurano, Higurashi no Naku Koro ni, Another, Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi, and Boogiepop Phantom.

Haven't seen it yet, but the description to Welcome to the NHK seems perfect! :D
It has the romance and psychological genre together, and even better its about an evil organization which is similar to one of my favorite animes Steins;Gate. Thanks! :)

The anime was pretty bad if I recall. They kinda gutted the VN. Steins;Gate got a much better treatment.

I know Chaos;Head was a prequel-ish of Steins;Gate but it's had pretty bad reviews, and doesn't really seem like it will have romance in it. Where as Steins;Gate is my favorite anime because it was so funny, interesting, epic romance and characters, plus it had science. P.S. Epic Engrish.

I liked Mirai Nikki because it was so harsh and gorey, but still managed to have that romance subplot without dragging down the story. It also had me begging to know what would happen next episode, and the cute girl could turn Yandere any second and just made it un-cliche.

Yeah, the anime wasn't that good and the VN was just "ok" at best. I wouldn't recommend it.

Just finished Welcome to the NHK, it started off really funny and was more of a comedy then anything, but then it dragged on. I have my ringtone set as Pururin now though, lol. I'll give it a 7.5/10.
