Due to the presence of a ghost girl, On a Paper Crane is not completely realistic.

.

One of my favorite movies; surprised it didn't get listed yet:

 • The Wings of Honneamise | Ouritsu Uchuugun: Honneamise no Tsubasa

It's been 8 or so years since I've seen it, so someone correct the recommendation if I forgot something important.  However, I believe it doesn't have anything "unrealistic," in that it adheres to all the known science and physics of our world.  It does set the story in a slightly different history and timeline than our "real" world.  It fictionalizes the actual countries and precise tech match-up for the time period, but more or less is approximately a WWII-era story about the first manned spaceflight with all the politics of warring nations competing to be first.

Magnificent animation and story.  Still a must-watch if it somehow doesn't meet your precise "realism" needs.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

well, haven't seen it (although it is in my to-watch list in the next few days), but seeing "sci-fi" and "parallel universe" as tags in the torrents section, I'm not sure if it fits in this category here..

That's why I used quotes for "realism."  If you require historical accuracy then, no, it will not meet your REQ.  Thus the comments I made about it.

"Sci Fi" and "Parallel Universe" are convenient close fits, for lack of more perfect keywords.

It is a fairly immaculate telling of a story that could have happened in the middle of the last century if our world had followed a slightly different path going into and coming out of WWI.  "Parallel Universe" is a bit too strong; "Alternate Timeline" or "Alternate History" would be a bit more precise.  The events depicted are very significantly based upon the real history of the Russian vs. U.S. space race ... had it occurred in Asia a decade or so earlier.

[ EDIT: @Al_Sleeper - thus, I stand corrected.  Thank you!  In my memory, I was sure it was Earth; clearly not.  I need about six months with nothing to do but watch anime.  So many new titles on my pile, and I want to re-watch about a hundred+ I've loved over the years ...   :-\ ]

Parallel Universe: Yes.
Alternative Earth: No (at least, in terms of geography and some cultural aspects).
Psychologically/Technically Realistic: Yes (if you don't mind somewhat non-traditional designs).

I may have to add
8-gatsu no Symphony
i haven't seen this so I'm not sure. But it seems like realistic.
Pity that it hasn't been subtitled either...

Perfect Blue.
And I think Jin-Roh is also suitable.
Yes it's alternate history, but not science fiction, and certainly not fantasy.

I was wondering if anyone knows any new film of the last year or so.
Realistic with no element of fantasy.
I am not aware of anything except the latest Ghibli.

If you wanted a series I'd say NANA, otherwise I'm afraid I can't really be of all that much help.

It may be a little off topic but Planetes, being a one of the best hard sci-fi works out there had it's own brand of realism and even though it was a series I think it does worth an honorary mention.

Glass no Usagi has HK English subs.
neo1024 translates Momoko subs from Russian to English. Hopefully, they will be available in a month or two.

Any news on Momoko?

By the way, I see an unseeded full DVD in nyatorrents.

Poke doll_licca and neo1024.

I'll post autotranslated subs a bit later.
