Demonoid is officially dead, who knows the best alternatives? (Open or not)
Logiick:
Considering I run Peerblock all the time, and can download anything from BBT with no problems, but if it's on, I can't log into WoW, I'm thinking it's not a "placebo" effect.
kitamesume:
"when it comes into security"... yes its a placebo effect.
simply put, blocking IP's doesn't hide your trace, but masking your trace does and encrypting your line does it.
edit: ok think of it like these -
1) government A obviously knows about peerblock, so they have their IPs banned, so they just simply switch IPs, although after a while that gets banned too.
2) the person doing peer transfers with you is being monitored, coincidentally it saw your naked IP, busted?
3) the ISP itself is listening onto your connection, its bare naked so its like reading newspaper, block that and you're blocking your internet.
tl-dr: encrypted line for security > blocking random IPs for security. both? you're just hurting your P2P.
its been discussed around these threads a while back, yes it is possible to decrypt your line, but it takes time and money(equipment), unless you're hacking trillions of dollars why'd they burn thousands of dollars just to decrypt it?
Logiick:
Either way it doesn't hurt your P2P unless what you're downloading has basically no seeds.
Also, my ISP doesn't care about what I do with my bandwidth. When they get an email saying this IP is doing this shit illegally, they send me one. Of which has never happened since I've used Peerblock.
The point is, using Peerblock is much safer than using nothing at all.
kitamesume:
didnt you just say it blocks wow? it does hurt P2P and not only P2P.

edit: no actually not doing something shady is safer, otherwise you'd have REAL precautions.
Logiick:
Yes, it blocks WoW because it's IP is on the list.
But I don't download things from WoW other than the updates.
What I'm saying is it doesn't slow down the downloads unless what you're downloading has no other seeds to be able to pull from.
It's still safer to use the (in your opinion) worthless Peerblock, than to just download without anything.
Like I said, I used to get multiple emails from my ISP claiming I was torrenting games etc, and since using Peerblock, I've never gotten another.
