I've already had it rooted, and it took like 10-15 minutes, using this site's method: http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-root/how-to-root-u-s-and-canada-galaxy-s3-sgh-t999sgh-i747sph-l710-fail-proofnoob-proof/

(click to show/hide)It really was quite noob proof, but not quite "fail" proof because one part of it requires that you quickly hold down some keys and do some ever so slightly fancy maneuvering. The main thing is that he doesn't mention you're gonna have to do it beforehand so when he's like "AND YOU DO THIS LOL" it's like "wait what..." It doesn't matter, though. Unlimited tries and I got it done the second time around.
As for roms, I'm a bit wary. I've heard they can completely fuck shit up, and that some apps are incompatible with them. That's not a good thing. I haven't gotten around to doing enough research as to what rom to pick out... Which is mainly because I might get this one replaced with another one, so I'm holding off. I got a dent on the side of it, and an annoying scratch on the screen (it's pretty small, but it's somewhat visible under normal operation). Since I'm under Best Buy's plan (which supposedly covers everything), they're gonna have to do something about it, which might involve replacing it.

Once I get an idea of whether or not Best Buy's gonna just try to somehow repair my screen or replace it, I'll probably buy a screen protector and then start working on researching roms. I didn't know that roms helped out with battery life and wifi, so thanks for that.

Mainly, I noticed this thing is absolutely terrible at "swinging" from router to router. In other words, compared to my old iPhone 3GS, it tends to try to hold onto a router's signal even though it's at a point where it can't even use it for internet anymore... even though there's another router right in front of it. I was walking around in a department building when I noticed it: I was standing right in front of another hub, but it was still trying to cling to one that was half the building away (at roughly 0 bars). Compared to it, my iPhone 3GS did that absolutely seamlessly. It would hop router to router, often without noticeable connection drops (I was talking to a friend on Skype throughout the building with no problems).
