Seeding isn't helping my ratio
« on: August 18, 2012, 12:40:21 PM »
I currently have 7 active torrents that are all seeding and 8 inactive torrents that im waiting to be cleared because they're all animes that I've completed and removed from my computer. my ratio is only getting lower and i've read the FAQ and whatnot and nothing seems to work to get my ratio back up and i really dont want to get banned. it's at the lowest it's ever been right now

Its pretty hard to seed on BakaBT because most of torrents are overseeded, therefore it will take some time till you seed enough to fix your ratio. Just wait patiently and you will be okay, maybe you can try download some freeleech torrents and seed them aswell.  ;)

Inactive torrents are never purged so far as I'm aware. I've got a number of ones showing up in my inactive list that aren't even part of the tracker anymore. Only way to regain individual torrent ratio with those files is to get them again and seed.

8 inactive torrents that im waiting to be cleared because

If you are waiting for those to be taken off your Inactive list, you should know that only the names will be removed if you have enabled that function on your tracker profile.  The amount of data that has been uploaded/downloaded is permanent and will continue to be used to calculate your ratio forever.

In my opinion you shouldn't delete those idle lying torrents. If you prefer watching and deleting anime then I suggest you get a external hard disk. With that external hard disk you don't have to worry about your diminishing disk space and those idle lying torrents. You can seed directly from the external too. That would mean you can seed almost 100 torrents at the same time depending upon how big the drive is. Will fix your ration faster. Every anime watcher should have atleast one external or a exceptionally large internal to seed.
I archive evrything I download so I need more drives than you do.

The average 'torrent-content' size at BakaBT is less than 2 GB.
Which means you can put 1000+ torrents running with a cheap external 2000 GB (2 TB) USB2 drive.
When not 1080p, even more torrents could be run.
A robust USB2-drive can deal with it, without overheating when running 24/7.

^2GB is probably because of the large amount of manga uploaded on the tracker.
But he is only referring to anime series I think. So even if they are o the lowest resolution possible I don't think they will be more than 200. I collect 1080p wherever possible so situation of my current drive is 49 series in 2TB drive with 850GB left when some series are not in FHD resolution because they are like utusei yatsura and maison ikkou which were never made in HD among others.
Conclusion is 2GB is kinda misleading in this case.

Edit: I may be wrong since you are more experienced than me. Had a look at your tracker profile. :P

There aren't a 1000 sub-2gb anime series on bakabt to fill that hypothetical harddrive. I'm not sure most people would care for what you got of the stuff that did fit too.

The average series is probably closer to 3 or 4 gb before you start factoring in blu-ray releases.

Like I said i collect everything and 1080p is the preferred resolution in each case. So I would require more drives to store a particular number of series than other people here.
And as you said there aren't enough series on BakaBT to fill that 2TB hypothetical HDD which means Big Teeth may be wrong.

Do the math on the realistic BakaBT-numbers: 21+ TB in 11500+ torrents......
The BakaBT-AVERAGE comes pretty close to 2 GB/torrent. This is what I claimed.

Look at the facts of the case... He is only referring to anime series. So 21TB and 11500 torrents don't have that much of a relevance.

Went to the Browse page and checked Anime Series, OVA and Anime Movies.

About 3500, which would undoubtedly be the vast bulk.  Music & Live Action will take some, but let's just round them out for the moment and guess that the Three Biggies account for ~80% (just pulled that out of my ass, feel free to fine-tune it with any Reality you happen to come across).  ~16,800 GB / 3500 = 4.8 GB average per torrent.

So, minimum 350 or so "average" anime torrents on a 2 TB drive.  Let's say the range is approximately 300 to 400 potential for most general, semi-random collectors that grab "decent enough" quality.

It's hard for me to have a whole lot of sympathy in these cases; I have only 19 torrents seeding currently, and my up pipe has stayed pretty saturated at 220 KB/s (at 80% of max).  I didn't really bother to select them for popularity, either...

-Seed more than 7 torrents (as many as you can).
-Download and seed freeleech torrents (they won't count against your ratio).
-Download files that BakaBT hosts, but from elsewhere (torrents, DDLs, IRC), then seed them on BakaBT. Refer to the re-seeding guide on the wiki for help with this.
-Read the wiki more: http://wiki.bakabt.me/index.php/For_First_Timers
