Newbie here need help in seeding
« on: August 28, 2012, 08:31:52 AM »
I have read the rules, it said that i should search my questions first before i post and if anything else fails then i can post here. To be honest I did not search because i don't think my questions had been asked before.

So I have joined bakaBT for about 2 days now. and I have 3 Active Downloads at the moment. 2 of them seeding without any peers.

I begin to see the problem that arises when you require someone to seed. Ends up you have a ton of seed on almost no leechers. I have a lot of patience and a lot of disk space remaining in my HD so having a torrent sit in my Upload Queue for about a month or half a year is no problem for me. The thing is, i believe you have a warning system that disables me to download more torrents if i havent contributed my quota of seeds. Now this is troubling, I won't make any promises here that I will complete the seeding heck no one will believe me because I'm still a newbie. However, when the time comes that i have exhausted my Downloads and need to seed and perhaps luck isnt with me. Is there a limit as to how long i have to keep on waiting for peers to leech on my seeds? Because seeding for me is no problem, the warning is.

Can you please give me advice as to how to address this dilemma? Free Leeches? I tried looking for some but the torrents aren't registered yet says the tracker when i look them up on the Offers.

Offers are torrents awaiting approval. What you could do, and this is something you can probably do with most newer torrents, is follow the offer being made and just get the files from the source.

For example, here's the offer for Tokyo Magnitude 8.0. And here's Elyisum's page for the thing. Download the torrent from Elyisum's page, wait till the offer gets approved, seed it here.

Again, this works with active torrents too. You just need to track down where they came from. Almost every single torrent is going to tell you the group, and for most newer ones you're probably going to have an actively seeded source that isn't bakabt.

You seriously think you're the only one to ask this? Granted, you're among the small number to have already realized the overseeding issue, but this is the most (or second-most) common question to be asked on the help forum. You don't even have to search - the board is laden with questions like these.

Stay off the offers page, unless you really want to see what people have been offering, or do what was suggested above. None of the torrents you will find there are active. What you want is the browse page. You can't search until you've been a member for a week, so this is pretty much all you can do.

The criteria for freeleech torrents is listed in the Wiki. The following torrents are all freeleech:
-All 1080p
-All artbooks
-All torrents under 100MB
-All music videos (I think)

As you might expect, the most popular out of those four categories is the 1080p stuff.

The best way to find freeleech stuff is to order the browse page by file size. 1080p stuff tends to be huge, which is why it's freeleech in the first place.

Finally, I'll close with a few facts: you cannot be warned within your first week here (don't quote me on that, but I'm pretty sure the grace period is one week), and you cannot be warned until you have downloaded at least 25GB. Keep these in mind while you are building your startoff ratio and you'll be fine.

P.S. be prepared to seed stuff forever. One of my longest seeds is 24 900 hours, which is roughly 2.8 years. I've only been a member for 3.6 or so years.

What Freedom Kira said.  ;D 8)

Seriously, about one third of all the questions in this Help sub-forum are nearly identical to yours.  Just browse through the last five or seven pages and click rheough on a bunch of the topic titles.  There are several hundred posts with many advices you can use to get your ratio in Good Standing.

Trust me on that ... I've probably typed up about 40 or 50 of the responses, with copious detail.

Please.  Just spend about two hours of reading through some of those topics.  There is a LOT of valuable information for you in them.
I win, once again, in my never-ending struggle against victory.

You did not search because you thought your question hadn't been asked before? That's pathetic. Seriously. Go do that fucking search.
