Moving Torrents
(1/1)
JustCallMeL:
hey everyone, im trying to organize all my anime right now but theres a small problem, here's a little info. Whenever i download a torrent it goes into my "downloads" folder automatically. Since it gets a little cluttered in that folder i am trying to move all my anime into its own folder somewhere else on my computer, but the problem is that when i try to move a torrent that i am seeding to another location utorrent says that it cannot find the file and turns it into an inactive torrent. If anybody knows how i can move torrents from one place to another without disturbing the seeding process i'd appreciate some help thanks!
Al_Sleeper:
E.g. by using "Relocate..." and "Choose download directory" commands in uTorrent.

Once you move a torrent & the path is broken for your client, you can also reseed it. You delete the torrent from your client (the *.torrent file, NOT the torrent files!), then re-add the *.torrent file to your client and point it to the new location. It will check and begin seeding.
Use the terms Al_Sleeper listed, plus "reseed" to Search this forum, the Wiki, and the help/forum for your torrenting client & you should find all sorts of useful info & tips. A Google search will also turn up quite a number of web pages throughout the Internet with even more help & instructions.
Freedom Kira:
Use your client to move the files instead of cutting and pasting in Explorer or whatever file browser you're using. That way, you move the data and keep the torrent pointed in the right location. If you don't really get it, think of it this way - you're pouring water into a cup and you can't see it (it's under the table or something), but your friend is helping you aim your stream. If your friend suddenly moves the cup and doesn't tell you, you're obviously not going to be pouring your water into the cup anymore. But if your friend tells you to move the cup, at least you know where to aim after moving it.
Most clients will also support automatically moving files into another directory once the torrent is done. This is my preferred way of doing it, so I don't end up opening incomplete files (which some clients hate; I remember Azureus/Vuze used to complain if I kept Explorer open in a directory it was downloading to, but that was years ago).
