Tiffanys:
You guys should really start making your own threads... The last 5+ pages are all off topic.
Mistgun_Zero:
Maybe we should just rename it as general tech/computer chat or make a new thread general tech/computer help/advice. That way advice give to others might also be useful for someone else.
@Tiff or Tatsu or anyone else for that matter: Can you make a new thread and have all the last five pages merged there?

I'll just rename thread.
Keep the discussion going.
Takeshi:
Just bought a Steelseries Rival mouse and a Steelseries Apex [RAW] Gaming Keyboard. Yes, I love their quality and I like to support them since they're Danish.
The mouse is great although bigger than my Logitech M-S69. So it'll take some getting used to. That case is even more apparent with the keyboard. Very rare that it starts off feeling normal. I got macro keys, L1 and L2 buttons. And MX1 to MX5 buttons. It's definitely different from using my Logitech Ultra X 967353-0403. That one had an issue with the space key not registering correctly since I mostly press it on the left side due to WASD.
That concludes my rig, I think. Maybe SSD down the line? Just need to find a proper mouse pad. I think I may go for Steelseries 4HD.

--- Quote from: Mistgun_Zero on May 14, 2014, 02:35:37 PM ---So..... I have a core 2 duo 2ghz processor. I was wondering if I could slap in a R9 265/270/270x or a GTX 750/750Ti/760 and play normally or do I need to upgrade to a i3/i5 minimum. RAM is the DDR3 1333/1600 Hz. Change in processor to an i3/i5 might also mean a motherboard change, I think. (Don't know really). Also just assume it's PCIe 2.0.
Original plan was to get a PS4 but well....let's also consider the alternative. (Main reason was number of games).

i3 - 2 processors/4 threads = 120 usd
mobo - 50-80 usd
psu - 40-80 usd (haven't done research on this to be honest, but guessing 450-650w bronze is about that much, and you may NOT even need this at all)
ram - per 4gb, 30usd average, top-end 40usd. 8gb is 70 usd, and 16gb is about 120-140 usd
so that's the bare minimum to start you off if you're going to get a new gpu. don't even bother with a new gpu on that old system man.
an i3 with 4 threads is amazing for gaming (don't expect it to perform flawlessly on end-game settings for thirsty spec games, maybe high-end or medium would do it).

pentiums aren't far off either, typically 20% slower than the i3s in general, but single-thread workloads aren't bothered by that.
the price difference is ridiculous though, if you don't really need the CPU muscle the pentium is worth more for the slot, you could always buy a 2nd-hand i5 later on.

Intel Pentium Anniversary Edition, overclockable pentium haswells.

srsly someone has got to run an i5/i7 with 2cores(&HT) disabled @ 4.5Ghz and bench it, it'll give figures of how this pentium would cope with today's standard.

haswell refresh review, seems like they're doing better though no temp benches.
edit: found one with a temp bench.

note: these are not devil's canyon, these are simply just tweaked haswells, well it should've been obvious with the "refresh" tag.
ohh and tatsu, check this review, its expensive as fuck XD
