a modem with multiple ports is similar to a router, the modem has a built-in switch node where the modem manages the NAT and DHCP.
its possible that you just havent port forwarded the NAS, or the settings of the NAS is in "i dont want visitors" mode.

I wish I could spend more time on this but I'm in the middle of class. I'll sum it up really quick.
NAS + Main computer connected to MODEM which has 4 ports out. Other computers connected to the router (not the modem). So right now the NAS and Main computer are my main concern. I want to first make sure these two are working properly. I don't think I have an interface for the modem like how the router does (192.168.1.1 is what I mean). How do I forward the NAS properly? Even though I did say it could "share" files with other computers.

just going out on a limb here but I assume your MOdem and router are not configured correctly. Is one running on 192.168.0.x and the other on 192.168.1.x? As this sounds like your problem as you have different subnets. if you want to move forward I would look on to seting the Modem into bridge mode so it does not handle dhcp at all or if you dont want to mess with your setup change all the subnet maskes to 255.255.0.0 so they can see each other
kitamesume:
what happens if the subnet mask is 0.0.0.0?

edit: ok i found a decent explanation, 0.0.0.0 mask turns the network completely transparent.

Its look down on for doing same as 255.255.0.0 you should never zero a subnet under real practice where your addressing matters. But for home use no problem. No home network should ever need more then one subnet unless you are trying to achieve something interesting.
kitamesume:
192.168.1.1 on modem and 10.1.1.1 on router
i just tried setting 0.0.0.0 on DHCP and it broke, derp.

no idea how to set up the modem to be honest, but the router I can set it up.
