an Acer TimelineX with Nvidia(1gb, 2gb) is good enough...

I have an Acer Aspire with NVidia Optimus, and it's served me quite well. Battery lasts 6 hours for most uses (assuming battery conversation measures are taken). My only problem with it is that the cooling system isn't very good. Dust gets trapped in the fan very easily and it is a huge pain to take the entire thing apart to clean. Aspire 5742G (i5-480M + GT540M).
But while mine has served me well, my friend bought an Acer one (don't remember the model) and it completely died after 1 year. He got all the components replaced under warranty, but it died a year later again.

he might have both the badluck and neglections with the unit, not managing the laptop can kill it =/

I had Acer 1680 by 1050 for like 3 years since 2008 and it died, maybe less than 3 years. I went with Asus monitors, an LCD and LED and both are really fast, great color and brightness (LED one), better options and wider screen (1920 x 1080).
As for graphic cards. EVGA all the way.

and thanks Southrop...will research other with similar specs...
btw Southrop, is 6hours of normal usage or heavy usage?
when i said this tuesday, its was canceled...friday is the day...
