Really?

Professional photography is a whole other ball game, one that, as you would notice, was not mentioned at all in this thread. You wouldn't even be taking professional photos with a regular digital camera.

The ultimate irony is the commercial for that phone in which they used a professional video camera!

Nokia said something like that a while ago, that in a few years there would be no difference. Canon and Nikon just laughed at that comment.

rostheferret:
Camera quality isn't just about the number of pixels though, so it is a little misleading. I have a 14 MP hand held camera, by partner has an old 10MP SLR. Guess which one takes the better picture. They basically slapped a giant crappy camera on the front of that one and then compressed the image to 8MP size; at 41MP the amount of noise would be freakin' stupid but when shrunk down suddenly a lot of that disappears. For a more realistic estimate of where we are I'd look to the new 920's night shots and video smoothing tech and ponder the Xperia's 12MP camera (which is actually meant to be a good camera, probably the best on the smartphone market right now). There will be demand for SLR's for a long time yet, we ain't even close to reproducing that kind of image but hand held ones? Yeah, not all that big.
