I'm reading your comment, and I can't figure out why they made it bigger, only why they didn't make it wider. Let me elaborate, everytime apple does something new, they use a lot of time explaining why they are doing it, and how much thought that went into it. However with making the screen longer that was no explanation at all, which makes sense, when you see they aren't using the extra space for anything. So why did they make the screen longer?

Oh and don't go down the road with optimal screen estate, by making the screen longer you wont be able to reach the top, when we are following the old optimal. I'm not in the mode for that kind of marketing bullshit, that fanboys use to justify the screen dimension.

I don't see why you don't see the benefits in a bigger screen? The iphone 4 looks tiny compared to all the other smartphones. And smartphones need more real estate. And the screen ratio is perfect I think...meh. If they didn't make the screen bigger I would have never thought about buying it.

you totally missed my point, so I'm not even going to bother arguing with you.

Point: apple always brag/tell why they do like they do, this time they didn't and that ain't a good sign.

No, but the notification is in the top, which will be hard to reach with one hand, this is the main problem with big phone, since you can still type with one hand.

Not really. Let me ask you this, would you rather surf the web with a 11inch screen or a 17inch screen? The screen are getting bigger, because they are smartphones, so they aren't just used for texting and calling people.

--- Quote ---Im pretty sure apple couldve packed it in the 3.5" screen, but everywhere in the internet everyone wanted a bigger screen. . .and so apple said "fuck it, we lost this one, lets give 'em the bigger screen"
or thats what I think

I'm to tired to argue over this one, so I will just say, that it might be possible, but it is more likely they did it to fit more content on the screen.

Maybe you're are looking too much into this? Maybe you are right, it could just mean they are unsure of themselves since Steve jobs has left and Samsung have closed the gap.

Who cares about that  ?

Good phone is good phone

Nokia fucked up with Symbian and WP7-8 is very good choice (it does not need x4 procesor like S3 to run smoothly)

That is interesting to know but how does it fare against the SuperAmoled and the HTC oneX IPS display?

There's been a lot of phones on the market(including iphone), that technically should have had the best screens but up close don't look anything special.

It's obvious you are a Nokia fanboy.

Oh, please that is so weak. You called me a Nokia fanboy earlier, so how do you explain this statement of mine:

I think Lumia is worse because of a larger screen. They made an even larger and more uncomfortable brick.

That being said any smart phone out there fails in dimensions. Remember the time when phones were literally huge bricks with antennas? Then gradually they got smaller and smaller up to the point when they could be built too small to be comfortable. Candybar phones were all roughly the same size and clapping/sliding ones were even smaller.

What happened then? Lumia and iPhone are both fucking bricks that take too much place in the pocket and in your palm. Making them thinner doesn't exactly make them comfortable to hold in hand while talking. The problem is first of all width. Lumia is just horrible in that parameter, while iPhone is not that much better, although it is smaller that it's predecessors.

The first smartphone to cut down width to around 4,5cm and length to around 10 will win my heart. So far I haven't seen those because the market loves big screens. The funny thing is that Apple takes pride in the design. Did they really not consider dimensions as part of ergonomics when they made their phones?
