Bonus Points Question
« on: September 15, 2012, 12:50:04 PM »
Maybe a stupid question but how does adding extra GB to your account work?

Can't you download as much as you want if you just keep your ratio high enough??

So what does the extra GB mean or how does it work

Basically it adds free GB to your upload statistic.

Say you've download 100gb worth of stuff and uploaded 100gb

Your ratio is at 1.00

Let's also say you have enough bonus points to get 50gb.

Turning those bonus points into 50gb would make your ratio 1.5 (100gb downloaded... 150gb uploaded)

Can't you download as much as you want if you just keep your ratio high enough??

That's correct.

Bonus points are completely optional, they are not required for anything.

I am only curious to know; is there anyone on this site that actually relies on bonus points?
Why I want to know is because of the extreme difficulty of earning them compared to other trackers, and how easy it is to seed here due to BBT being a public tracker.

I don't rely on them, I just collect them in case sometime in the future they will have some other use :)

That's because they don't serve that purpose.
They are not ratio builders. They can help those with horrible connections, but definitely not something you should rely on for ratio building.
Their purpose is to keep torrents alive and reward those who do.

I only meant for avoiding getting warned, not building a godlike ratio/amount of points in order to reach the top-ten, but thank you for answering anyway :]

I guess you're right, it works for keeping obscure torrents alive as people who have a good connection and great ratio also want their points because of prestige.
I am not fully convinced on the "help people with horrible connections"-part, but you've probably heard that a thousand times, so I'll keep quiet.

Just let the points pile up in case ratio goes too low.
