You'll also see "Popsi," "Coco-Cola," "Hunda," and various other companies get the same treatment. It's cheaper to make the logo look the same by association (and change it just enough to not get sued) than to license the use of the real product. So our protagonists play their "Game Bays" and "Ploystations" with pride, and we get what products they're really using/playing while eating at the fast food hamburger joint with the big "W" out front. Sony's a Japanese company that makes a variety of electronics, so of course their logo will be instantly recognizeable and easy to implement on a bunch of different things. Panasonic used to get the treatment a lot, but I haven't noticed it as much in recent years.
