SOMY in anime world?
MRI:
Since I started watching anime I saw this name as reference to Sony
At first I thought that this might be as secret advertisement for one company but I saw this name in old 90 s' anime and as well new 2000s' anime as well.
From please teacher 2002 and to video girl ai. Which was released back in 92.
So I will be happy to know for what reason all TVs and electronic stuff called SOMY in anime world.
Unrecognized:
Trademarks get obfuscated due to restrictions of product placement. Though I fail to understand what's achieved as they remain recognizeable enough (not exactly enough, but rather right on the spot).
Sony might have been selected because it's short and simple. "SANY" and "VATO" trademarks are quite noticeable as well.
MRI:
yea but if Sony have paid for this then they would just write Sony and not Somy, as well why it have the same name in so many anime which have nothing in common in between them..
Triltaison:
You'll also see "Popsi," "Coco-Cola," "Hunda," and various other companies get the same treatment. It's cheaper to make the logo look the same by association (and change it just enough to not get sued) than to license the use of the real product. So our protagonists play their "Game Bays" and "Ploystations" with pride, and we get what products they're really using/playing while eating at the fast food hamburger joint with the big "W" out front. Sony's a Japanese company that makes a variety of electronics, so of course their logo will be instantly recognizeable and easy to implement on a bunch of different things. Panasonic used to get the treatment a lot, but I haven't noticed it as much in recent years.
Of course, you occasionally get the real thing, too. *eyes Basquash's Nike-wearing giant robots and Code Geass' CC eating Pizza Hut's pizza*
MRI:
I have hoped for more interesting story behind it, oh well mystery solved !
