*sigh* Soo much arguing.

Well on the topic:

Phone1: iPhone 4S (for some reason I couldn't wait for iPhone 5 to come out, would have loved that).

Pros:
Easy to use.
Nice display.
Nice eye-candy out of the box.
Apps selection is better.
Best music output in phones yet (headphones).

Cons:
Very costly.
Simple design can become boring.
Customization is extremely limited.
iTunes is a drag to use.
3.5" screen can become a bit small after you get used to smartphones. (not sure about 4" of iPhone 5 though it is still better to watch videos and the 16:9 ratio looks a lot better, both in overall design and content).
EVERYONE HAS THE FUCKING SAME PHONE DAMNIT!!!!!!!

Apps I use:
8tracks for music (a different kind of internet radio)
Default music player. sometimes 'groove'
For games: asphalt, batman, infinity blade.
messaging': whatsapp.

Phone 2: Sony Xperia Neo.

Pros:
Reality Display is really beautiful. (Even though low res of 848x480 on a  3.7" screen, the reality display is still awesome)
Nice design.
Easily affordable.
Sky is the limit with customization.

Cons:
Updates can slow the phone down, hardware matters. (Has a 1 Ghz processor, really outdated IMO)
Apps are not awesome on Android, though it's slowly closing the gap.

Apps:
Same as above.

I use both of them and these are MY OPINIONS. So there you have it. If anyone's going for android, I would recommend the latest Sony's lineup, cause they are a hell lot awesome than my sony mobile. As for Iphone, well there is no choice :(.

as stated by my good ol' friends at apple:

after 280?(ish) ppi the human eye cannot detect a pixel at 12", which is why the retina display has that density. . .which is why the iphone 5 still has that retina display instead of the more advanced one that samsung/competitors released. . .
Your friend is very misinformed, read this. You shouldn't believe all marketing BS you see or hear.

No that isn't the reason why the iPhone still have that display, it is because a screen with higher PPI doesn't exist at the moment at a 4 inch size.

I have to agree with mrd here. Even though it's says retina, the pixels are still visible, though they don't bother as much they would do on a  normal phones. And I do wear glasses, meaning a person with even a poor vision still can see that.

I dont want to make this a discussion on the iStuff but the retina display, as mentioned in that article is based on "standard" sight (20/20) which is general, one of my eyes has a crappy rating while the other one is fine (i think?) anyways I can barely see the pixels when I get like 3 inches away from my ipad. . .

having said that, its like saying "oh this shoes are made so that they will never wear out while running"
and then you have the guy that runs at 10 m/s thats a top world athlete that actually worn them out. . .and thats your discussion point.
(PS I Know it was an exaggeration, but I hope I got part of my point across)

^the pixel density issue was pointed in the article posted, it was quite an interesting read and i do agree with it, pixel density can go further, sure you can't differentiate the pixels anymore but you won't be seeing any jagged images anymore either.

edit: speaking of screens, another advantage that i could think of is that if the screen's pixel density is high enough for you to not be able to differentiate three or more adjacent pixels from each other without a magnifying glass, dithering would become a flawless technique and you wouldn't be able to notice one or two deadpixels and thats a good thing too.

edit2: i just remembered, what do you guys think of Nemus and Next? currently my android has an outdated apex launcher...
in terms of smoothness and performance which do you think would be better?

20/20 isn't general if you had read a bit more of the article you would have seen this
Quote
But while 20/20 vision might traditionally refer to “standard vision,” most research suggests that normal vision is actually much better than 20/20. In fact, people with normal vision usually won’t see their eyesight degrade to 20/20 until they are 60 or 70 years of age!

and in case you don't got a great vision
Quote
It’s true that many people with poor or average eyesight, an iPhone 4S display held from a mere 12 inches away might appear indistinguishable from a True Retina iPhone with triple the pixel density. Likewise, it’s true that some people with a Retina MacBook Pro, from two feet away, might not be able to tell the difference between that and a True Retina MacBook Pro. Some, then, would argue that this is all pointless. Hyper-resolution for hyper-resolution’s sake, aimed at a small subset of anal retentive individuals lucky enough to have above average and even perfect vision.
...
But there’s another reason why everyone should care. Back in 2010, Japan’s NHK Science & Technology Research Laboratories discovered that across the board, the smaller the pixels, the more real an on-screen object seemed to the person viewing it, even if they didn’t have perfect vision. In fact, this effect is so profound on individuals that it eventually reaches a point where you have pixels small enough that on screen objects are completely indistinguishable from real objects.

Let me ask you this question, if there was no different between 320ppi and 400ppi, why would the OEMs be moving toward that? You might think it is because of spec sheet, but the majority have seen apple branding 300ppi as retina quality, and as you, don't believe in the gain of higher PPI. However when all that is said, I would still say they shouldn't be focusing so much on higher PPI, there are much bigger problem with the screens we are using at the moment. That is the black well more like greys, since they don't look like black at all, and the ghosting. These two are some very annoying thing about IPS(LCD), that matters a lot more than having a higher PPI than 300+. Sure there is hope in screen technology such as OLED, unfortunately OLED still have a lot of beginner technology problem, such as the blue degenerate faster than the other colors.

also if you guys know anything better than said launchers in terms of smoothness and responsiveness then go ahead and mention it, lol.

phone threads are bound to be filled with fanboys declaring their phones are the best phones and other phones are for faggots thereby reinforcing their delusion of "I'm smarter than you, I make better choices than you!".
All you have to do is study it out. Just study it out.

What about Nova launcher? it is quite a bit like apex, just faster and smoother.

i dont know, but i've read arguments with all i've mentioned(except balancer) being much more fluid than both nova and apex.
currently have zeam launcher running and yeah its way more fluid than the outdated apex it replaced.

Old thread which I overlooked.

Ok, so here we go:
Quote
Phones:
which phones do you have?
what can you tell about it?

I am using Nokia X3-02
It's a slim and small sized phone which has buttons, but also a touch screen. Great for people like me who must have buttons to write messages, but feel it's ok to have touchscreen to navigate menus.

Touchscreen itself is resistive type and thus unlike the capacitive types it works during very low temperatures. I tested it this winter on my way to work when it was -23 Celsius. Also it works when you have gloves on. Perfect for my local habitat.

16GB memory for music, so I use it as an mp3 player.

Quote
Apps:
your recommended apps?
where to get them?
Beats me. I can make phone calls, write messages and listen to music. Never had a need for any apps.

Quote
OS:
which OS do you like the best?
how do you change your phone's current OS, is it even possible?
It's a dumbphone, but according to specs a Series 40 OS. Changing OS on a dumbphone is pointless.
For one thing, Tiff is not on any level what I would call a typical American.  She's not what I would consider a typical person.  I don't know any other genius geneticist anime-fan martial artist marksman model-level beauties, do you?

you can pretty much ignore the other questions you know, i generalized the whole thread into anything about phones you own since previously it was all android and nothing else.

i owned a nokia X1-01 previously and it was really good as an mp3 player, can pretty much run over 2days on 40-50%vol music.

as per say about changing a dumbphone's OS is pointless, there could be neat hacks that you could do when tweaking it at least(maybe adding internet to the older phones).
if i remember correctly, a lot of the dumbhandsets are java based, hmmm...

^Its not. But the apps I use are mostly same or similar on both. Sorry about that.

Also another good thing about iPhone is there keyboard. It's quite easy to use compared to android. With enough practice you can type on it almost without seeing. I know I can.

Misty you have to realize that's just a time thing. I mean SwiftKey can predict entire sentences in the first few words. you can tell me that's not impressive.
