DVD ripping tips/info
« on: October 07, 2012, 09:43:09 AM »
hey

i'm ripping my dvd's with freemake video converter output .mkv original resolition (mnemosyne 1024x576)

is there a way to improve the video quality ? it doesn't look to good

http://i.minus.com/iwNOHOdg92HsE.jpg snapshot with mpc-hc 1 pass no subs (as they looked terrible)

http://i.minus.com/iZt5DO5usaWjB.jpg 2 pass

not seeing any improvement...

any where i can check what subs are better dvdr2 or fansub so i can add them with mkvmerge

with mkvmerge after muxing(or what it's called) i don't have a thumbnail any way to fix this ?

btw the dvd's that i have: mnemosyne, eureka seven, ouran, claymore, ghost in the shell 1+2, d.gray-man (51 elp s1+s2)

if you guy's know witch subs are better and where to get them, that would really help...

thank you

PS: sorry for the double post, delete the old one...

PAL DVDs (I'm assuming because the screenshots are 1024x576) aren't really a good source material in general.

Crop the black borders away, they're useless.

afaik multi pass doesn't really improve quality per se, but lets you have the same quality with a lower filesize. And that looks about the same as most dvd rips I have so I'd say that's the most you're going to get.

Use a different encoding e.g.h264, perhaps?

http://i.minus.com/irbKlj5lcmIsg.jpg for some reason it came out like this...

played the vob with wmp-hc

did see a improvement in my rip from the original thou...

and took a better look at my one pass and two pass rips... looks like one pass is better

for sound should i make it flac ? so i don't lose any quality ?

don't really care for disk space

Yeah, sure. But your main issue is the video.

It almost looks like you encode stretched the vob screenshot. Is that right? Because if it is, that would explain the quality...

did a rip with the original resolution, even worse .....

how about sound witch should i use ? mp3 aac ac3 flac

on another note, wanted to rip both dvd's and selected the 43 min titles from both ended up with 7 eps instead of 6 do i have to pick the title with 2 hours and cut it ?

on dvd 1 of claymore i have only one title with 22 mins and 2 with 2 hours, seems like i have to manually cut every ep :(

should i cut it with freemake wideo converter ? or can you recommend another witch i can also crop thee video (the useless black bar )

thank you so far

Can't really help with the converter choice, unfortunately: I rarely use them.

For the sound format, just go with AC3 since you're using DVD source anyway. If it means anything, AAC was designed to replace MP3 of all things.
