Whatever you can have playback using h/w mostly depends on the ref frames, fps, high profile and 10-bit. The exynos in S3 should be able to handle 10bit 720p with s/w, but I take it you are using the American variant, which is using another processor. So you are stuck converting/re-encoding, since most fansubber are using 10-bit.

We'll be getting 4G LTE(probably) in a year or so. That means we won't be getting any further Quad cores are well.
No, galaxy note 2 are running exynos quad core, that support LTE, and the same is true for the international 4g galaxy s3.

10-bit on dual cores....

my E7500 could handle 10bit 1080p just fine  ;D soooo yeah core count doesn't matter really, although its a different matter if its a junk dual core or even a junk quad core.

My ultraportable only has a 1.3GHz dual core and I can play 1080p 10bit flawlessly.

Obviously, there is a big difference between arm and x86 though...

Hmm...I was mostly thinking of the old models as that's what I got on one of my machines ;D. The speed is just OK.

I would recommend Deadfish's encodes. The quality is plenty good enough, the file size is lower, and the S3 has absolutely no issues playing it. You can just grab tTorrent (or if you don't mind donning your hat and getting out your rowboat, you can get the Pro version without much trouble, too) and download their encodes straight to the phone from Nyaa. Really extremely convenient.

ARM has higher code density and they've done a pretty good job in the low-power, portable market. Well, the instruction sets have their tradeoffs, either way. I think that MIPS is also making some new stuff for the mobile market, but I don't really keep up with that stuff.

Cute, huh?

VLC for iOS?

Last time i used video players on iOS tho (it's been a while), the ones that an actually play anime are either paid apps, or have an ad on top of the video which does tend to make the anime choppy.

Well a simple solution to remove the ads is to turn off the wifi or 3G network you are using. I usually do that to avoid the ads. Works well.

Although i'll search the app store for VLC.

Edit: I guess i'll create another thread for detailed info.

You may also want to try "OPlayer".

The thing is, i can't disable my network. Considering the kind of hassle you have to go through to play videos on iOS, the only viable way is to stream directly from my NAS. You're here so i'm sure you're aware of the turnover rate of anime. We probably go through several gigs of them a day. Because of the way iOS works, you can't copy files to an sd card, and plugging in the tablet requires a special program to transfer files. The only other way i can watch on it with less hassle is with network streaming.

You are not gonna find it, vlc was removed by apple since they add DRM to every app, which they aren't allowed to, because of the GPL that VLC use.

You can JB it, and get it from Cydia, but VLC don't support it more, so it is a pretty outdated app.

There is already a thread about iOS playback, so just search the forum.

Lots of uniformed opinions in here about the dual core Krait S4's performance. It is just as capable of 720p 10-bit playback as any Tegra or Exynos proc. I'd refer you to my previous post on this subject with links to actual benchmarks showing relative performance of all three procs http://forums.bakabt.me/index.php?topic=35042.msg4792096#msg4792096/.

If watching unconverted 10-bit encodes is a make of break feature for you and you are getting a new phone, I would encourage you to wait for the quad core Krait S4 phones coming out later this year. (LG Nexus 4 announcement end of this month: http://www.theverge.com/2012/10/11/3487698/lg-nexus-phone-photos-leak) It will by all indications (http://www.anandtech.com/show/6112/qualcomms-quadcore-snapdragon-s4-apq8064adreno-320-performance-preview) blow everything currently on the market out of the water on CPU performance and finally brings GPU performance close to PowerVR SGX 543MP4 levels for an android device.

I got shitty iPhone 4s, any player's you guys know that would be able to play 720p files (currently using Oplayer Lite) (well-8bit will work). And what do you think is 4s max playing capacity?

Just try out those encodes I mentioned in my previous post; they should play fine. The only issue is seeing if they'll go through iTunes successfully. Which is saying a lot. Probably the largest reason I ditched iPhones is just iTunes.

On a side note, I believe the tc was satisfied with my previous suggestion, so why's this topic bumbling on?

Cute, huh?

simply because every concluded thread turns into a chitchat thread, same thing as to what happened on this one.

Guys please stop hijacking the thread for iPhone support. This is for the S III, not iOS devices.

Could a mod please kindly prune this thread of the unrelated iPhone posts?
