The panel is the same as the $800 samsung, but the base seems nicer. The feature set, and apparently the image quality, color accuracy, and viewing angles, are all significantly better than the cheap E-IPS displays on ebay.

Probably just one additional monitor. Personally I would say additional displays are only needed when there isn't enough screen space.

A few people at work (programming) are using 27" monitors and are very pleased. For that purpose, I personally prefer dual 20" 4x3, but for film watching, 27" may be nice. Here at home I just installed a 23" WS for watching and stuff, and am very happy. I've never been able to feel comfortable with dual WS, the physical distance from left to rigth edge just becomes too large...
