three questions:
1) do you have enough storage for 1080p copies?
2) is your "player" strong enough to handle 1080p?
3) does your monitor or TV have 1920x1080?

i know that some 1080p are just upscaled 720 but there are some that are natively 1080...

yes its true, but doesn't necessarily mean its a bad thing, some upscaled 720->1080 are quite good, to the point of passing an "OK" from moderators as an alternate 1080p copy.
in uploading in BBT, the uploads goes through a quality check first imho which makes most copies "good".

3)i only have a 19led at the moment but planning to upgrade soon...

what i meant about player is the broad meaning of "player" which means the object in question that would "play" the video, some people use a cellphone, others use a video player on a literal sense. although you're using a PC, its not a guarantee that you'd be able to support full 1080p without the machine's specifications, for example an old pentium dual core would suffer decoding hi10p 1080p and so on.

with a monitor not having a resolution of 1080p it wouldn't be as nice when playing 1080p videos on it, since it's gonna get downscaled back to whatever the monitor's resolution is, although some results to a sharper image but still its not a good idea.

but based on some of what you've said, i can say "go ahead" and grab 1080p if its available, otherwise you can just grab 720p, theres really no point of arguing 720p vs 1080p without a reason of "why not".
without a "why not" its always 720p < 1080p.

If you feel like the minor eyecandy and crispness it adds to the video if you're watching it on a 1080p monitor is worth the bigger filesize, then of course it's "worth it".

All depends on what you want. I don't really care about it personally, it is a cartoon after all and will for the most part just look a tiny bit sharper, but I often snatch 1080p releases anyways. I don't need to worry about space or bandwidth and generally snatch what I will be able to seed better.

still undecided weather to upgrade or not...
i guess i'll wait for more feedback...

Download both a 720p and 1080p release of the same show and compare. This is a matter of preference, and you should decide what you should choose by yourself and not through everyone elses mixed opinions.

A good 720p encode isn't by miles worse than a 1080p one, it just comes down to what you want, maybe for a particular show in question. Some shows that offer more than vector characters might be worth snatching the 1080p release for, other ones that are mostly just the same vector stuff throughout may be not.

^ like i said, without a "why not" its always 720p < 1080p, simply put 1080p is the highest quality you can get out of the box, otherwise grab blue-ray ISO files.

hmmm... maybe i'll do that... but i still got some pending torrents do dl and my connection isn't that fast so it might take a while before i actually do that... xD

1080 looks a little bit better, takes a whole lot more of space and needs a somewhat decent pc to run smoothly. If you have enough space to store it and decent pc, then there isn't much of a reason to not get 1080p instead of 720p. It's really all there is to it.

Personally I prefer 720p because I tend to store my anime "forever" and I can buy only so many external drives.

well... hmm...
actually i already know the answer... xD
if i'll rate the two...720p 10/10 - 1080p 11/10
i just need more reason why to upgrade to 1080p
xD

^yes, exactly.

oh and one good reason as to why to upgrade 1080p, its for picture the bigger screen and a nicer picture quality.
21.5" 1080p are so cheap these days, some even go as low as 160$ USD.

oh and =( i'm in the same boat with a slow internet...

i have a nice 37 in. 1080p hdtv and the hardware to play 1080p video just fine. i still settle for 720p in most cases because the file size of a 12, 24, 50 ep show if still 'fair'. i will usually download the 1080p if A)i really, really, liked the show and want it in the best quality possible. and B)if the file size is not outragous such as 30 - 50 gigs. that's sorta above the storage space i wanna commit to just one show.

besides, in most cases 720p still looks very good.

Well, as was said, 1080 does look better, especially if you play it on big (hd)Tv screen, but as was said, if 720p is 10/10 visual quality, then 1080p is 11/10.

Honestly, tho, 10 years back I watched anime in resolutions that people are embarrassed to even mention now and I was happy, so 720p is good enough, and the minor quality improvement doesn't really justify the huge space requirement for me. Admittedly, that is because I simply have to store all the anime, you know, just in case it would get wiped off the face of the planet the next day. :D

ah, i forgot to mention, about 70% of what i grab are usually 1080p, the best advantage of 1080p when it comes to grabbing here in BBT is its freeleech XD

If given a choice between either, just go with 1080p if you have space, otherwise 720p.

its like asking "which car is better, a Ferrari or a rustbucket? nothing is an issue, i just want the better car"

This is some bad analogy as there is no day and night difference.

Rather, just a regular Ferrari whatever, or a Ferrari whatever with fancy expensive rims and whatever fancypants accessories to it.

They both do the same thing, one is just a tid bit more polished and costs more.
