Is BakaBT experiencing high server loads?

Recently, I've been getting an error whenever I try to get onto the website telling me that there is no open sockets or something and I was unable to connect to the MySQL database.

(I didn't think of taking a screenshot at the time, but if it happens again I'll be sure to.)

Is this a problem that only I'm experiencing, or is the BakaBT servers under heavy load?

Happens regularly every day at the same times. Can't recall what the site does during that time, but yeah it's not just you.

Just try again in a minute or two. Those errors don't persist.

The site does run backups daily at a certain time of day, but that is only once per day.

They do that to freeze the data in the DB to become stable. They don't want the data to change while the backups are being made. That usually creates inconsistency and it's a pain in the a** to restore if they need to restore.

No. It's really 1h to do the backup.
As long as ppl don't turn off the torrenting programs or there's not need to obtain new peers during that time, it's no real deal. Well.... specially for me, I'm always sleeping at that time.

It happens at 2am UTC. It used to be 5-10 minutes but now it's somewhere from 30 minutes to an hour.

There are a lot of conflicting opinions about "how long/what time" here, enough to make me believe that all of them are wrong.

To close the topic, yes, Southrop is correct.
Various factors influence how long will the backup take, but if you come across a site downtime around that time (2am UTC), best try again in half an hour.
