Tips to get a better upload ratio

<< < (5/8) > >>

Bozobub:
Well, many of the better clients DO let you set per-torrent bandwidth caps.  So, while you can't set it per connection, there's still some granularity to your control.  But yes, I don't know of any client that lets you control individual connections, beyond banning specific peers (if you notice a lot of bad data from them, for example).

TheHell:
well I didn't ask how to put a cap on bandwidth usage of torrent. just wanted to know if there is any data about how torrent clients handle download and upload tasks and some info about connection settings inside of torrent. ::)

BTW. I was thinking that I can take my completed torrents to few different places and put them on seeding for some limited time. it can change my ratio a bit. the question is: is such thing useful for BBT users?

Different places? You're only allowed to seed a torrent from one location at a time.

I may have misunderstood, and you meant places on your hard drive.
...or places, like at different trackers.

...I don't know who I'm talking to.

Oro o_o:
I am quite happy using the public trackers for leeching.
My current list of seeded torrents, however barely managed to upload 200MB in the last 12 hours.

My PC has a stack of 3x1TB HDD's and a single 2TB drive, out of these one drive is only for torrenting and runs all the time irrespective of other stuff running on the pc.
I have a slow 1mbps or 125 KB/s connection but with no bandwidth limitations.
My PC is always on because it is busy processing satellite images on another drive so therefore the torrenting goes on side by side. The only time my PC is shut down is when I am either cleaning it on a monthly basis or the net itself is down.

You can see why the expiration of public trackers would result in a ridiculously small amount of seeded data while they haven't expired. Most of the time my torrents aren't picked up for seeding since  most of the torrents have plenty of seeders (probably having a better upload rate too). Then the torrent itself expires and thus I have to keep a tab on every torrent that is on a public tracker.  This was quite depressing since at the end of october about 20 or so torrents with the public tracker expired therefore I finally decided to register as a user to continue seeding. After all one good turn deserves another.
