New connection - want to help seeding heavily, but unable

25 is too little for your internet connection, it's better to double or even triple the value.
My number of active torrents on average 35-50, and it's considering that my internet speed is almost five times less than yours.

Actually, I think it's quite the opposite. The network is my universities, but living nearby, I get the same connection. The science studies use the network for research and testing, so the network should be configured to be open/available in all its forms.

However, at the moment I have "only" 8 torrents from BakaBT running - do you guys think increasing the amount of active torrents will help?

That doesn't mean much. My university's network was the same, but it was heavily restricted - if you wanted to use a blocked port or protocol you had to submit a special application to get permission, and explaining why you needed it, before you were able to.
