Author Topic: Slow download rate and upload rate (Read 1893 times)

Hey i am having some issues torrenting with Utorrent. Since i reformated my computer and ran the new version of Utorrent, i have not been able to keep a steady speed of of a DL rate or an UL rate. Any suggestions on how to fix this. The files are just fluctuating up and down to much and when one file only downloads at like 1.5 kB's for so long, then it just moves on the next torrent file. I don't know what went wrong, it was fine before format my pc, or maybe its just the torrents? But i highly doubt it. Is it possible that i might have to portforward the IP into my router configuring again? or perhaps reset my IP settings on my account.

My specifications for my client is:

1.5 Global Mb/s speed, which means i can download at a file at the maximum of bout 150-160 kB's.

up rate set to 65 kB's
Dl rate set to unlimited

Global maximum Number of Connections - 200
Max number of peers connected per torrent - 50
Number of upload slots per torrent - 4

Just those 4 for now. one that just recently finished was

Okusama wa Mahou Shoujo but it took a very long time to finish it. This is very unusual for my client to be acting up like this.

Any suggestions or help with settings, what could possibly be the reason for these slow down times?

Are you having the same issues with torrents from other trackers? Look for stuff that's well-seeded. If you don't have any, add one now, just to test. How is the performance on the other torrents?

Your settings look fine, and I highly doubt you should have to change port forwarding (which isn't always necessary in the first place), but it doesn't hurt to try it.

Try switching to the version of uTorrent you were using and change all your settings to what they were before the reformat, too. If you still get the same problem, then the issue is not likely uTorrent-related.

Any tracker status messages?

No its specifically the torrents with Bakabt. I tried other torrents from other sites and they download at max speed, no problems. This torrent im downloading now just reached bout 50 kB's and then went down again. I tried other torrent files on bakabt with lots of seeds, they seem to work much better but they still fluctuate up and down, from like 150 at max to like 5 kB.

As far as tracker status, no i don't see anything besides it on the bottom of the client it will change from a green check mark to indicate network status ok to a yellow mark to indicate that the port is not open and it will change that way when the speeds fluctuate. I also did a network test on the client and it states that the port is not open, but im still able to download. But i had that same error message before i formatted my pc and it was still not having any issues like it is now.

Try to download this torrent if you would as a test and see what you can get.

Mine is going at like 5-10 kB's right now. But yet another torrent with less seeds then that one is going at like 120 kB's, so i don't know what the heck is going on.

Why it's good to open the port is because other people who haven't open their ports can't see you, which means that you can't leech from or seed to them. I'd try opening the port just to be sure.

Edit: I think I misunderstood, as you seem to already have opened the port. I can't think of a reason on the spot, then...

Tried for about 30 seconds, and I got 40-80 kB/sec, but only half of the peers had a chance to connect. I'm on a high-speed VDSL connection.

Well just now it started taking off, so i guess it maybe related to the torrents?

But i just found out something, i changed my queue settings to download 2 active torrents at once and for some reason that fixed it i think. Now my global DL torrent speed is reaching peek values. Before i had it at like max # of active torrents like 10 or 20 and only 1 active download. Now i have max 4 torrents and 2 active downloads, one torrent going at like 90 kB's and the other torrent hitting 30 kB's. But the moment i change that quoue settings back to "original" which was max 20, active 1. Suddenly the torrent at 90 kB's just drops fast. So i guess my quoue settings had something to do with it.

OH btw another question i might make another topic for this but going by the settings that i have for my client. I am bout to upgrade my internet with in the next few weeks to a 12 Mb's Connection instead of a 1.5. Should i keep the same exact settings i have or definitively change those "Connected peer" settings to match the faster DL and UL rates.

Right now i get this.

Global maximum Number of Connections - 200
Max number of peers connected per torrent - 50
Number of upload slots per torrent - 4

But i am not sure if that is acceptable for a 12 Mb's Global connection speed.

Seems fine to me, maybe increase the global max as the seeding torrents might take most of the connections.
Can't really explain your observation though. And why only one active DL?

Because with one active download, i can dl at one torrent at max speed, and then it will move onto the next. That way the downloads finish faster and i can seed quicker as well.

You always seed while you download, so I don't understand that logic. The more your data is spread out over more torrents, the more leechers you will have access to. It doesn't matter if your files are incomplete - you seed what you have. That's how BitTorrent works.

Then how come it moves to the seed box when finished, that means your seeding your torrents. When downloading, your downloading, your not seeding them and to prove that, i can look at my profile. When ever i am downloading anything, it won't show any gain in UL data transfer. Unless im seeding them, after the downloads finish.

But i don't know a whole alot bout torrents anyways, i could never figure them out, ive always had a horrible ratio to, the only reason i got a good one is because some one uploaded like 2000 GB of data for me in like a weekend.

FK meant that you'd be seeding the parts you've already downloaded even when the torrent is incomplete.

Yeah, you seed whatever parts of the torrent you have on your PC. Even if you're still downloading the rest (which means utorrent marks it as downloading - and the site just marks all incomplete torrents as downloading regardless of whether they are or not, since it can't tell otherwise), you're always seeding what you have.

I would say most people use "seed" or "seeding" to refer to uploading without downloading.

You can seed a full torrent or a partial one, by blocking some files for download. Most or all trackers would not recognize you as a seed if you don't have the entire torrent, though.

Yeah i am still have major issues this is ridiculous. You can test these torrents your self if you like and see if its the torrents of my network connection. But i am going to send you a few screen caps so you see what im taking bout.

I noticed that under logger it says "banned Permantly" but that couldn't be my account, because account status on bakabt is fine.

The speeds are throttling up and down, i could go and change my quoue settings to download 2 active downloads at once and suddenly it will increase the speed because it will dl a different torrent, but after so long, that torrent just ceases to function and it goes all the way down to like 1.0 or 2.0 kB's and just stays their for an extended period of time.

Its doing it again even as i speak, the moment i changed the quoue settings, it downloads 2 active torrents instead of the 1 i had going. Then it reaches its peak in DL rate, 130-150 at least, now its all the way down to 5.0 for the 1 torrent and the other torrent is at 3.0 and now so my global DL rate for all torrents running is like 8 kB's about currently right now. I have tried shuffling different torrent files out of the 7 or 8 torrent files that i have their.

Here is a screen shot to show you what happens when i change the quoue settings, you can see that two active downloads are set, and the speeds are climbing for just the one torrent and the other torrent is not moving at all. Also the speed does not remain consistent, only for a time and then it will drop back down to hardly nothing.

Its still fluctuating up and down like that for all torrent files, something is definitely wrong. My Utorrent client never did this before.

That's exactly the behavior I encountered several times in uTorrent v.2.x, and the reason I had to ignore them completely and keep uTorrent v.1.8.5 on my old system.

Yeah you make a very good point their. This all started happening right after i formated my pc and re downloaded the newest version of Utorrent. So maybe the issue lies in the client it self. Right now i actually have 3.2.1. Before i formated my pc, i had a 2.0 or something similar. Knowing that, i think i might download an older version of Utorrent and then try it out, where do i go to get an old torrent dl client, on the main site?

You know come to think of it, i don't have any issues on my laptop and im downloading manga over thier and its reaching the highest DL rate with no issues but the torrent client i have is not version 3.2.1
