New PC...Redownload to Reseed?
« on: November 17, 2012, 05:28:04 AM »
Within the last month I've switched to a new PC. I had some hard drive trouble on my previous computer, so I wasn't able to transfer any files over (including torrents I was previously downloading and seeding). The thing is, I want to seed all the torrents that are below the 1.0 ratio. Since I don't have the files on my computer already, is there a way to reseed the torrents without redownloading all the files?

I've read through the wiki and the forums, but could only find answers for seeding torrents when the files are on your computer already.

NOTE: Using uTorrent 3.2.1

EDIT: To make it official = Amorphous Plate Wiggle

You can't seed something you don't have, so no.

You could download freeleech torrents (anything under 100mb, music videos, artbooks, and everything in 1080p) and seed those without impacting your ratio though. Or alternately obtain the files from somewhere else and reseed them here, assuming bakabt isn't the only source. For newer stuff you can usually just look up the encoding group and find the original torrents that way.

Guess that makes sense. I was hoping there was a way of getting the url/file/what-not for the actual torrent and then seed it that way without downloading the chapters or episodes. =-/ I suppose I could get around downloading all the files by just downloading the smallest file....

What do you guys think?

That makes no sense.

The Wiki. Go read it. Especially the FAQ page.

Unless you have the files somewhere, on an external for example, then you're hooped. Get downloading, and get seeding.

I'm gunna leave you anyway.

Redownload while logged out?
No. Your advice will just create additional cheaters.

Think about it. If you have to download without using your account, is it worth it to maintain an account at all...?

Okkuammiei: Your ratio is far from the danger zone, so you shouldn't have any trouble re-downloading the stuff you hadn't seen/read yet.

and is heavily looked down upon.

You can always download off of somewhere else and reseed here if you find the same release.  Or just get crackin on redownloading things to seed them.  That's what I get to do as I just wiped my computer.  Luckily, I have decent ratio buffer to help me out >_<

While the practice of DL from the site while not logged on and then UL while being logged on is not forbidden, I consider it morally dubious. Despicable?

However, you can not distinguish this from seeding things which you have DL elsewhere, and hopefully UL to 1+ in the original torrent (if it was a torrent), so one needs to be a bit careful with blaim... I have done this several times, and I've always taken great care to seed the original DL to more than I got. I cannot see any fault in this, considering basic torrenting principles...

I agree that it isn't "wrong" to seed what you've leeched elsewhere here, and I'm usually careful with the blame. It's when 95%+ of a user's torrents torrents are not downloaded from the account here that I get suspicious.

If MementoMori8 has downloaded all those torrents elsewhere, I'm sorry and certainly withdraw my accusation.

No offence towards him but I'm with you. Most of the torrents he's seeding or has seeded are quite old.

While the user himself sees no difference, the site is affected. I don't want to get into it here, but I know I have posted the reasons a couple times before in other threads.

Lets see what TheHell would do? ::)
well if I want those torrents I would download them again and if I don't seeding new torrents is same as seeding old ones.
as long you seed, you seed it doesn't matter what torrents right? 8)
