slow seeding issue with bittorrent 7.7
crunchy128:
i was having motherbored issues so i bought a new computer and im running bittorrent 7.7. i know nothing is wrong with my internet connection because at one point i was downloading a file at 3mb/s. ive never had any issues with uploading in the past. it was very common for me to reach at least a 1.0 ratio in just a day or two. now its over a month for most of my torrents still havent reached a 1.0. so im wondering if anyone has heard of this before and knows whats going on.
i will also accept the possibility of nothing is wrong and simply no one wants to download these files.
i dont know much about how bittorrent works but maybe i screwed up one of the settings.
bandwidth:
max upload rate- unlimited
max global connections 999
max number of connected peers- 99
max number of upload slots- 99
use additional slots if upload <90%- checked
queing:
max active torrents- 99
max downloads- 99
min ratio- 99
min seeding time- 0
max available seeds- 0
seeding tasks > downloading- checked
side note- i have no idea why it bothers with minimum. the current value will always be the lowest and cant get any lower. why doesnt it ask for maximum, so when it reaches the max, it will stop? anyone think they could explain it in a way that i can understand?
Al_Sleeper:
Seed more torrents.
Freedom Kira:
Minimum seeding time refers to the least amount of time BitTorrent must spend seeding a completed torrent before it is allowed to stop it.
Minimum ratio, likewise, refers to the smallest ratio BitTorrent must get on a torrent before it is allowed to stop it.
They might not mean much alone, but together it makes more sense. If you only set one of the two settings, BitTorrent will always stop a torrent when it hits the given criterion. However, if you set both, BitTorrent must meet both criteria before stopping a torrent.
Anyway, there is nothing wrong that I can see, except that you probably want to set a max upload rate to about 80% of your connection's max upload speed, or you will start seeing lots of network lag when you start saturating it. So yes, the possibility that you stated is entirely true, and the simple solution has been posted already. It's normal for torrents to take several months, even over a year, to reach a 1:1 ratio.

TBH, it's quite rare. Usually it takes no more than a month if you have a decent connection.

If you have a decent connection. I was recently forced to throttle to a ridiculous level, and am now seeding at a max of about 30KBps. I hope I can un-throttle in the future.
In any case, I think that not-so-decent connections are a lot more common around here. At least, I would think that given the number of users complaining about slow seeding.
