Berserk anime

Hi guys,

so I just finished Berserk anime (I haven't read manga or watch movies yet) and I'm seriously disappointed with the ending because it really confused me. Could someone answer these questions for me?

1) Was Griffith good or bad person? Did he know about upcoming slaughter of his comrades or he didn't know and that "demon" took control over him as he "awaken" into his demon form?

2) Did Griffith love Caska? Or was he just jealous/scared of (that he will take Caska and army with him) Guts or did he just want to destroy mentally Guts so he raped Caska before his eyes for that?

3) Seriously what happened? How did it end? Is Caska alive? How Guts escaped from that "blood" reality? Or it wasn't reality? How come that Guts still HAS HIS LEFT ARM IN THE SCENE AFTER ENDING SONG (and in the first episode) and how come his right eye isn't OK when his arm is?

4) Do I need to watch movies so I know what happened or they aren't related to this?

5) In the first episode some guy said that Griffith became a King. Does that mean King of demons/everything or King of Midland? If so then what happened to princess Charlotte? Or was he using her for potentional status gain if she would say that she wants to marry him? Was that "Lord" from this episode Griffith?

6) Why Caska didn't struggle when Griffith was kissing her or raping her? Or was she just mentally broken so she didn't know what was happening to her? Or she didn't struggle because she loved Griffith and she just "fell" for Guts because she wanted someone who is caring about her (so it could be anyone?)

7) Did Judeau love Caska? (It looked like it because when he was about to die he said something like "I want to tell you so much things" and then when he was falling to the ground it looked like he regreted not saying something else than that about her crying when she's alone.)

8) At the end when Griffith was raping Caska was he sane? If so then why did he do this to Gats? Didn't he feel about Gats as his friend? Or why was he doing this to him? Was it really everything just because he left him year ago?

4) Do I need to watch movies so I know what happened or they aren't related to this?

Watching the movies is a must. Great animation and a chance to get a clear image of what the fuck happened. Honestly, I always thought that this ending was an original ending, and that Griffith and co. didn't end there in the manga.

I don't want to spoil too much for you, but you should at least watch the first episode of the series again after you finished the last episode. It will enlighten stuff a little bit, but here goes:

1 ) Griffith was probably, if you would "AD&D alignmentize" it, chaotic neutral, or even true neutral. Not good, not evil, just incredibly intent on getting his way. People in his way must be dealt with one way or another, but if he needs to sacrifice those who consider him a friend or ally he won't hestitate to do that either.

2 ) It's important to understand that whatever "was" Griffith died with the birth of Femto. Femto is definitely "evil", and however Guts keeps referring to him as "Griffith", "Griffith" is actually no more. He probably wanted to rape Casca physically, to rape Guts mentally, so you're right on the money there.

3 ) Caska did actually survive, together with Guts. Like I said, watch the first episode again. You won't see Caska, but she made it out alive. Kind of.

4 ) Yes.

5) "Griffith", as people continue to call him is indeed King of Midland, but also "ruler" of the demons.

6 ) Mentally broken. Close to insane.

7 ) Yes. As a friend/big brother/love interest. Most likely as sentimental cannon fodder though, but done so effectively.

8 ) See 2. "Griffith" became Femto. And evil.

Honestly, you should give the manga a shot. I know it's "reading and stuff", but you won't come out dissapointed, and it clears up a lot.

There are so many Berserk threads that I'm not sure in which to post so... this one seemed the most fitting.

3rd Movie was awesome, is another one coming or was that the whole of Golden Age?

Say I were to pick up my first manga in Berserk, which volume/chapter/book should I start from to continue from the series/movies?
