Are you a Translator? Click Here and Apply
« on: November 25, 2012, 05:55:27 PM »
Created a new thread because Box Subs are making a comeback, we still have a timer, a raw provider, a typsetter, all we really need is a translator.

If you can translate from Japanese to English please post here, I can add you the group. We need someone of similiar standard to our previous releases.

If you asked to be in the group and didn't get a responce then please PM again, I apologise I have had long periods of not being active, so have other staff members but we are all almost back together now.

I doubt I'll be taking up on the offer any time soon, but may I ask a few questions along the way?

Q1. How many translators (Jap-Eng) do you have at the moment? Any restriction such as maximum allowed number of translators per translation job?
Q2. What is the approximate work ratio (translating : editing) for one translation job? Are there dedicated editors available?
Q3. Any policy on how "heavy" the translation (not referring to direct translation) needs to be? Or is it enough as long as the context matches?
Q4. What about translation dateline? Or are there materials that do not require immediate attention?
Q5. Workflow?

none at the moment (which is why our releases have been vary scarce for a while).

well obviously the less times we have to go over the material the better, but we usually have an editor pass over it.  I think we still have a couple of people around that would do some editing.  I used to, but I just don't have the time for it anymore.

Not sure exactly what you mean on this one.  You talking about things like honorifics?

We have a couple shows to choose from.  Whatever gets done first is whatever people want to work on.

Q5. Workflow?
People work when they can.  No real deadlines or anything.  It can cause a release to take a while, but we aren't the type of people to rush volunteers.  The works we do have been available for 20+ years, I think they can wait a little longer.

When i did future war and Andromeda stories, you weren't exactly flocking to help me. B[
I had to go at stardust to finish them.

How to say this nicely. The real problem here is lack of leadership.
Area88 simply doesn't has the time to be an effective leader.

I said I don't have the time for it anymore =/  It was my first subgroup job since I got a full time job and I thought I could do it, but I wasn't able to.  At this point I can really only do distro (and maybe a final QC).

I'm not attacking anyone.  8)

Some one has to be around to oversee what's going on.
Leadership is not overrated.

I did come with almost finished translations.
I was left to fend for my self.  >:(
The leader should had overseen that work on them progressed.

Area88 is too busy. In how much time he will respond to my comment?
On average it could take him months, that would prove my point.

They are translations out there in other languages then Japanese. For the mean time, translations can be done from those. A full Japanese translator isn't immediately necessary. For example interfax is Russian.

My point is. A new leader is needed. A translator is secondary.
Area88 should agree. He doesn't have the time to be a leader.

But interfax-kun is mere ripper. 8)

Agreed. I propose Gamera67 for the leader.

Well, if you want raws, go to AsianDVDClub.

Through, someone would have to go through the hassle of ripping them into a usable format and dealing with the IVTC.

Raws aren't the problem.  I have one or two myself that are untranslated.
