Any Friends in Real life that watch anime the way you do?

I know loads of IRL anime fans.

My boyfriend, one of my sisters, at least 3 people from work, my managers daughter, most of my friends from college, half of my friends from high school. I've never struggled to meet and befriend anime fans and it always amazes me that people do.

Slowly i begin to think there is some sort of conspiracy. What is this "real life" everybody seems to talk about and where can i log in?

On a serious side though (and no, i don't want to provoke pity, i am not necessarily the most miserable person on earth), i don't really have real life friends, probably one or two.

But i have problems with the term "real life friend" to begin with?

A) Meeting somebody in real life and befriend him, sharing interests, he moves away, writing with him on a daily basis with seeing him maybe once a year somewhere... real life friend or not?
B) Somebody helping me out with some issue on IRC, sharing interests, becoming friends, writing with him on a daily basis from there on, talking about many different things, also personal things, so he is a real friend, could be the best friend i ever had,... but no "real life friend" ?

In the most literal sense of the term "real life friend", he could the very definition of "real life friend".

A) this has been one of my problems with actual friends, since school or such, after graduation they either move away or they're just plain far away.

For me, I got 3 of my closest friends into anime last year. We hang out regularly, and chat on Skype, so that's cool I guess. I'm extreeeemely open about me watching anime, usually because I have the goal of trying to find other people who are as well.

Its pretty hard to find people to converse anime with in real life.

Eh, same for me. I've thought about joining the anime clubs at my university, but they're like 90% male so I decided against it.

Also met some people at conventions, not many, but a few.  And they were mainly people my friends already knew and hung out with regularly.

I think more people like anime than they lead on.  I know quite a few people who like a few shows and movies, but don't really see it as we tend to, they just see it as another TV series.  They tend to watch some anime, but never exclusively watch it or obsessively watch it.  Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo, DBZ, and Gundam Wing all come to mind, along with Ghost in the Shell (Movie) and Ghibli films.


^  At least, that's how I see it.  (Side Note:  I was flabbergasted when I found out that Terry Crew's favorite movie was Ghost in the Shell.)
