i got the same translation and im getting horriblesubs. i figured at this point that the sub groups were just screencapping the simulcast sites, why would the translations be any different? i watched ep 1 streaming and dl'd within a day or so of each other. while i didnt do a line by line comparison (im not that anal), it appeared to be the same. or is this an instance of groups not liking the honorifics being left off or whatever and translating official translations? is that what happened with the "aaron"?

Some lines can mean different things, depending on your interpretation. It's the main issue when trying to translate from one language to another, especially if one language doesn't have the same expressions as others do. This is usually where you'll see the largest difference. And if a word has different meanings, which one do you use?

And what about "that 'Aaron' thing"? Do people still believe that's the MC's name, when his name is clearly written (and pronounced) as Eren? Or is there something I missed?

Wasn't aware they were doing it. Mostly cause they didn't show up when I first searched "shingeki no kyojin" on nyaa.

Why wouldn't you watch their releases? They are episodes originally subbed by CrunchyRoll, so they should be pretty good? :)

This series is turning out to be pretty awesome I must say. Lots of character development and the fight scenes are brutal to say the least.

The translations are usually fine, since - as you say - they're done by CR. But they make no effort to maintain any kind of reasonable quality level, and their releases are generally very poor in all aspects other than TL quality. The size of their videos tends to be unnecessarily huge considering the poor quality, too.

Personally though, I dislike them on principle more than anything else. At least most fansub groups actually make some effort to justify doing what they do - even the ones which don't create their own translations work hard to ensure they offer the best video quality, typesetting/subtitle quality, chapters, etc that they can. HS just rip off CR's work and upload it themselves for free.

(And yes, I know there are other groups which just rip stuff and make no effort to improve on it. I don't like them either.)

If you think a mediocre quality stream rip with no typesetting, no styling, no karaoke and no chapters is a good release....sure.
