Um episode 1 that titan ate Eren's mom, who was alive. Remember Mikasa's parents killed by those bad guys when she was a kid and she met Eren for the first time? Then Eren's parents adopted her.

LOL. But he seems much taller, like more NORMALLY tall, in the anime. Mikasa called him a "shorty" in the manga IIRC once.
