Tracker Status problem. [SOLVED]
« on: December 11, 2012, 07:04:30 PM »
I am getting the message:

bakabt.me: Error: invalid encoding of tracker response: ""

on the Tracker Status?

I have been able to download and it is showing that I am uploading on my account page, so... is this message anything to worry about?

I tried, qbittorrent 3.0.6, qbittorent 2.4.11. and currently using deluge 1.3.5, all giving the same tracker message?

Edit: Using Windows 8 64 bit, version 6.2 (Build 9200), this is not pro version.

Not sure if I am being ignored thinking that I am not trying to search the answer on my own or not. But please note, I did search before posting.

I searched:

BakaBT forum - searching for invalid encoding tracker, nothing turned up. Now it shows my post when searching BakaBT forum.

BakaBT wiki - http://wiki.bakabt.me/index.php/FAQ#Torrent_and_Tracker_Issues  Nothing about my issue and I am using the whitelist torrent client.

Google - searching for invalid encoding lead to deluge with a similar message (reason why I am using this currently), it was saying to turn off "Auto Managed", which doesn't make a difference for me?

Or am I the only one to ever to have this bakabt tracker status error message?

Edit: corrections

It's an unusual message and might possibly be related to the recent tracker issues.

Have you tried restarting everything? That includes your network equipment - modem, router, etc.

More users would be affected if it were a tracker issue, we've resolved yesterdays downtime for now.
Resulting error from it was "tracker actively refused connection", "offline" or similar.

Antivirus have been known to cause issues, Avast and AVG most of all - see if disabling/uninstalling your a/v, firewall, peerguard and similar 3rd party software has any effect.

Also try disabling the firewall/NAT on your router (at least temporarily) to see if that resolves it, if disabling your local antivirus doesn't. Also, what kind of internet connection are you using? Just ordinary home broadband, or is it some kind of corporate or academic network (eg. in university accomodation)?

It seems the problem was with Avast. After disabling, everything announced "OK".

I never thought that my antivirus was causing this error message. It didn't even occur to me to consider disabling since I have been using Avast for so long. I never had Avast conflict with any programs before. It has been awhile seen I have used BakaBT and in the past I swear I remember using Avast and BakaBT with no problem.  (been so long I forgot the old name before being changed to BakaBT or has it always been BakaBT? Something in my head is telling me it was different before...)

Before (with Avast turned on):

After (disabling Avast):

I am using Avast free version 7.0.1474
I am also using Comodo free firewall 5.12.256249.2599 (Comodo does not give me any problems)

So, new question would be... how do I configure Avast so I don't get the tracker error message without completely disabling?

edit: corrections.
edit2: I did restart router before disabling Avast, not sure if that contributed any.

Avast started causing issues lately, just get rid of it imo.
You're already using Comodo firewall, why not get the full internet security suite?

I use it myself, it's free and I'm fairly satisfied with it.

Yea, I just might.

Too annoyed thinking about having to disable Avast everytime I start Deluge and scared to have it disabled while it is seeding.

My problem is solved. Thank you.

edit: Yep, just installed Comodo Internet Security Suite. Works fine like you said.

On a misc side note. This time I opted not to choose Comodo's Secure DNS thing. I had that enabled on my Comodo free firewall and I would constantly get limited connectivity on my wifi. I would have to restart computer to reset.  Well, I'm sure it was Comodo's DNS that was causing since none of my other device connected to the same network had any problems. Well, lets see what happens now.

edit2: Indeed it was that stupid Comodo DNS. Now, not using Comodo DNS my web browsing is a lot smoother, pages load up faster and I have yet to have the wifi limited connectivity. So, if anyone decides to go use Comodo, I recommended not to use their secure DNS option.
