Well,
in Monster:
First of all the stereotypes that are generally portrayed, sometimes clearly crashing the limit between authenticity and painfully overdoing it in a way.
Also the German in the Series whenever it appears is funny, sometimes letters/notes/messages written in german are relatively correct, other times they use german words, but the grammatic doesn't make much sense.
Also from time to time you can catch some car driving on the wrong side of the street (in Germany: right side, in Japan: left side), which also every time makes me smile a little, funny how old habits just don't die ;-)
In Ghost in the Shell: 2nd GiG there is one episode (i think you could describe it mostly as filler episode) that takes place in Berlin. In one scene Batou buys a Newspaper and reads it, and for a short period of time you can see the front page of the newspaper.
Well the letters of the article can't be read, they are Squares and Signs, but the Headlines of the articles (while not written in the best german i've ever seen) make sense, the layout reminds me of many german newspapers, and style of the (newspaper) title letters (
picture) even fitted perfectly.
But Ghost in the Shell consistently is very authentic in every possible way one can imagine, well my favourite Series, what else can i say...
Also in the
1st Season of Ghost in the Shell or the Tachikoma Mini Series (can't remember) i caught a Tachikoma reading the book
Flowers for Algernon, which basically is a story about a scientific experiment, where the intelligence of a person is highly increased using new scientific methods, and this persons struggle with his intelligence and what he remembers from the time before the experiment and only now with his new intelligence can understand fully for the first time.
I bought the book instantly just for fun and well, it became one of my favourite ones, thank you Ghost in the Shell !
btw: I think if you pay attention (in gits) you often will notice little details that just make you smile, i can't remember that many specifically though... what of course also every time is funny are the little hints at the first Ghost in The Shell Movie :)
Serial Experiments Lain:Lain sees her father asking him for a new computer, all the while the father sits in front of the computer, typing in commands, and well... it looks heavily unix-based, which was also a nice little detail :)
Since this one is not technically an Anime, but nevertheless i'd say mostly relevant to the likes of Anime Fans,i'll hide it in a spoiler:
Broken SaintsHacking Scenes are quite realistic. In One Instance he sits on a Windows PC, instantly complains about how stupid and bad this operating system is and downloads from his own server that he has set up somewhere (and that is full a little tools and programs he with that method has access to wherever he can access the net) netstumbler to hack some network :))
the faces more or so are all drawn the same in almost all series (per series, per artist), big eyes, fucked up unbrushed hair style ...
Characters looking the same is something painfully(!) true for
Mushishi, but since it's mostly just a series of different tales and stories it can be forgiven
