Why hasn't she learned to keep her mouth shut over the years?

A good question! Only 2 episodes in, I'd say it's because:
Would you hang out with people if you knew what horrible things they really thought? I guess she's never met anyone as nice as these kids before.
Plus even when she's trying to help others? They end up getting freaked and hating her.
Hope that's not too "spoiler" eh?
I like PK Dick's version of "ESP": It's a two-way street! I can read your thoughts? You can read mine too, just as easily. He used it in several stories & novels. Very interesting idea, eh?
(of course that wouldn't work here! lolz! I'm just saying...)
(click to show/hide)However! When Kotoura and Manabe are walking in Ep.02 at 13:00, past the dojo, why didn't Kotura know Moritani was there? She was close enough, eh? Perhpas her mind was a blank?

(click to show/hide)from what one gathers from that same episode, Kotoura needs to have a line of sight, or at the very least, know that there is someone there so that she could "aim" her ESP.
kinda weird when we consider the truck episode however. maybe she noticed the truck there?
5Cats:
Ah! True that @Grimpak! It seems stronger, or more accurate at least, when she's looking at someone. But she can do it "behind her back too" eh?
(click to show/hide)Yes, I think she looks right at the driver before she pushes Manabe out of the way.
Xycolian2332:
Sure... they could play the "she was a child and didn't know any better" card, but that explanation would be unsatisfying and feel like a cop-out.
That explanation is also on thin ice because she's not a child anymore, yet she still seems to say whatever is on someone elses mind. Despite the fact that she's gone through so many horrible experiences that were a result of her power, it doesn't seem like she's learned anything. She just keeps repeating the same mistakes.
When I say "same mistakes" I'm referring to the class president/tennis club member conversation.
She goes to a new school for the umpteenth time, before doing the same thing that made her leave her other schools and caused her family to abandon her. Bwuh?
I can understand this in a way though, because if she had already learned to cope with her problems, then there wouldn't be much pretext for this anime to work off of. I.E no character development.
Actually, that's a lie.
A girl who has ESP is a great premise to make stories from. Depending on how they created her character and the setting, they could've made her grow in different ways besides making a series about her learning impulse control when it comes to opening her mouth. I think they just picked the easy way out as far as storycrafting goes.
Despite all that I've said, it's still too early to be judging the series this harshly. I'm just gonna keep watching and hope that they answer these questions, or maybe go in a direction that I'm not expecting it to go in.

well maybe she just wanted to make it clear from the start?
meh, still poor explanation :-\. tbh it's still too early to know what really goes on her head. all we know is she's a mind reader and had a terrible childhood that made her extremely social awkward.
