OLED + QD-LED

<< < (2/2)

Belmakar:
^ according to wikipedia, AMOLED stands for active-matrix OLED, as opposed to PMOLED (passive-matrix OLED).
AMOLED displays require a thin-film transistor backpane to switch each individual pixel on or off, but allow higher resolution and can be larger (source & more details)

OLEDs show a lot of potential but I think we're a few years off from them being entirely practical and replacing traditional LCD panels. Among other problems, color accuracy is bad, their lifespans are short, and power efficiency (as low power as they are) is really bad - I remember reading that they typically operate at 19% efficiency these days.

Give it a few years and they'll be great. For now S-IPS LCD remains the top dog in displays.

oleds are supposed to have amazing color reproduction and only the blue had lifespan issues

kitamesume:
^it has quite amazing color reproduction, but the color accuracy sucks, specially after it accumulates quite some age, calibration is a must in like every year or so.

Mistgun_Zero:
I really do doubt OLED will ever make it to 40+ inch display's. OLED still have a lower lifespan comparatively, not to mention high power requirement. And even if they do, I would say it would have the same fate as plasma TV's.

At this point QD-LED seems like the only alternative present. As long as they get over manufacturing issues (which will eventually be solved IMO), I guess we will really be seeing this displays within a couple of years.

Though I guess one advantage OLED have is that they are flexible, so yes, I guess we won't be saying goodbye to them for a long time either.
