Help on picking parts for new rig.

(1/2) > >>

Phobicpanda:
I'm looking into building a new rig (will have the funds next month). I want a PC that is good for encoding and video editing as well as a mobo with enough SATA ports to fit a lot of harddrive's. I already have a case.

This is what I currently have picked out. I'm undecided on which SSD to get. And I think the video card is fine because I mostly just play Diablo 3, currently running it on a Radeon HD 5550.

What’s your existing case?

MarchHare:
You may want to look into getting a larger SSD. If you're going to be editing videos, you'll probably get better performance if the files you're using are stored on the SSD.

Also be prepared for your case fans to run full speed (it might be loud) if you don't have any other way of controlling the fan speed.

This is the case I am using.

Which video editing programs are you going to use?

For video editing/encoding, I believe your CPU may be slightly overkill. I would opt for Phenom II X6 1100T (MSI 870A-G54/ Asus Crosshair IV Formula -- yikes), but if you prefer threading over core, I guess it'd be fine, though. But, if nothing else, I'd stick to Sandy Bridge, for now.

I personally would go for a better GPU: GTX 670, or something similar.

And yes, you should get a larger SSD (if you have the budget) -- otherwise, you're better off with an HDD instead. If I'm not mistaken, you need to have some free space left if you want to fully reap the benefits of an SSD, so it's no good if you filled the storage 80%+.
